Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on May 18, 20233 bars Verizon LTE and very fast internet (not common for this area). Mainly quiet except for logging trucks throughout weekdays, but still not bad. This area has 3 campfire pits; a 36’ motorhome, a 35’ fifth wheel and a 25’ TT were all in there reasonably comfortably at one point.
Access is from Cooper Ranch Rd, almost directly across from the Klahowya Campground access road, from the 101. Go past Olympic Discovery Trailhead and turn left on NF-29. The road is one lane with some wider sections around curves, but it is paved all the way to the site. Logging trucks use this road on weekdays, as do RVs, cars, bikers, and hikers, but it isn’t terribly busy. We didn’t run into anyone the many times we left and came back, but log trucks do operate M-F, 4am - 5:30pm.
The area is a large gravel turnaround with grassy areas to park around the perimeter. There are two access points from NF-29, about 30 yards apart, so if you miss the first one, you can make the second. Watch for low hanging branches.
To the east is Port Angeles, which has a Walmart and many restaurants. It is a bustling town!
Casino gas station just west of Port Angeles has cheapest fuel and propane prices around. $1.69 gal for propane (07/2018).
There is a small camp store just west of Lake Crescent, and a dump/fill station ¼ mile west of the store on Camp David Jr Rd at Fairholme campground boat launch ($10 pay box- and bring a water bandit if you have a hose fill).
Hungry Bear Café is a few miles west of the campsite on 101- was closed when we tried to visit due to lack of help, but open again before we left. A few more miles down the 101 is an RV park with public laundry (4 machines) and a small gas station (not on Google) with diesel and some supplies.
Another 12 miles west is Forks. There is a slightly larger laundry mat in town, but it will cost you at least $4.50 to wash and $1 to dry. Medium-sized grocery store that passes through to a hardware store and a clothing store. A few restaurants in town, expensive fuel, and access to two coastal beaches.
Beautiful free camping that I was almost didn't want to post. Please, take care of it.

No services, but we don’t care. Flat enough spots. Very quiet throughout the day. Didn’t see anyone else the whole time. Plenty of exposure for solar. Three bars Verizon LTE. Very fast even without a booster. There was a bit of garbage that we bagged and took out. If you do come here, please help keep it clean. This is a better spot that nearby campgrounds in our opinion, but little privacy if others are here. Still, awesome all around. Paved up to the sites.

I came here in a 30 foot 5th wheel towed with a diesel. The forest service road to get here is narrow, but paved (it's not far off 101). The campsite is dirt. I came here in rain and had no issues with the roads. Great spot for any size rig. No campground amenities, so bring your own water and be prepared for no electrical hookup. It is absolutely stunning and you should camp here! I am a digital nomad with T-Mobile. Great cell service for work.

We arrived on a Monday at about 4:00 pm, and there were two other rvs there camping. We parked toward the middle of the big turn around to try to get as much sun as we could for our solar. The few sunny days we had still only yielded about four hours of sunlight per day on our panels due to the giant trees surrounding the clearing where we were parked. It did rain quite a bit as it tends to do in rainforests, but that didn’t dampen the amazing beauty of this forest spot. The birds were chirping all day long, and the bugs weren’t bad at all. This was one of the best spots we had the pleasure of spending time at.

No frills parking lot not far off the highway.
There were three or four other campers/cars in the lot, two of which looked like long term deals, but it was surprisingly quiet and clean.

We stayed here for a week in our 35 ft. fifth wheel. No issues whatsoever getting up the forest road or finding the spot. We had the place to ourselves 6 out of 7 nights. The clearing gave us great sunlight allowing us to use or solar panels. Great cell service to work all week. Would definitely stay here again!

I will preface this review by saying it was July 4th and every other campground on the peninsula was absolutely packed. My partner and I got to the site around 8 PM and there were two groups there— one group of about 2 cars and an RV and a second group of about ten vehicles total, a mix of RVs and cars. We waved to the people we saw and drove to an empty-ish area to set up our tent. One thing to note was it was VERY buggy. I probably wouldn’t want to hang out at this site for long at this time of year anyway; we were absolutely mobbed by mosquitoes as soon as we got out of our car. But overall it was totally fine. Nice, quiet site, absolutely beautiful location. The larger group was looking at us a lot when we got out of our car so I waved again. This is where it gets a bit unfriendly. Eventually two women (grown women, not teenagers) from the group came over and asked us if we found out about the spot online. I said yes and she said that she was a local and she didn’t know the place was online. I said yeah and tried to look agreeable. She looked at me for awhile and then she said she didn’t mind if we stayed but just know her group was very loud, stayed up very late, and they didn’t plan on keeping it down. I think her friend was a bit embarrassed for her because she said, “There’s room for all of us!” and we said, okay, because what could we possibly say to that, and they turned and left. My partner and I started setting up our tent and everything was fine for about three minutes. Their group then went from talking loudly to shouting at what sounded like the top of their lungs. Like, not saying anything, just yelling to yell. We put our tent back in the car and left. Fortunately if you keep going along the road away from how you come in (so away from 101) there are lots of little places to park along the logging road. We parked far enough away from this unfriendly crew and put our tent along the side of the road and had a really peaceful night in the woods. I don’t think I would come back because honestly I didn’t feel fully safe all night. But it was a beautiful place to sleep.

We arrived July 1, 2020. No one here. Secluded but muddy and tore up by 4 wheelers. July 2nd the locals started showing up with high performance Razors. Drunk, loud and obnoxious until all hours of the night. By Saturday July 4th there was not enough room to even park. I counted 12 Razors and almost got run over by 1 during the day. They went out on daytime and nighttime runs honking the horns on the way out and back in. This is a once a month event for some of them. We are never going back there. Don't bring the kids because they'll learn new swear words and possibly get run over.

Decent size can fit all size rigs if there is space availability. Sites level with a few potholes. Not too many mosquitoes in Aug.

NO ATT service in this Northwest area of Olympic. Need to go to Forks or toward Lake Crescent near Storm King Ranger Station.

Good free camping spot on the peninsula, close to the discovery trail and crescent lake.
There were just a couple of other tent/car campers here when we were Since it was mid week and raining, so it was quiet and secluded. Access was super easy with good paved roads And easy corners and grades the whole way to the field. Leveling our trailer was easy.
It makes a good base for exploring. I wouldn’t camp here just to camp, the trees are pretty, but there are no views beyond this small clearing.
Cell service was strong on Verizon so we could work, including video calls, and stream movies at night. There’s a pay dump station at the boat ramp on the west side of Cresent lake If you need it.
Our main negative other than the Pnw weather was the dog poop everywhere. We tried to clean up our site area as best we could but still managed to track it into the car which was a hassle to clean up.
Please be responsible and clean up after your canines :)
