“Places in Santa Rosa, CA”

Summerfield Cinemas is proudly owned and operated by Dan and Amy Tocchini, lifelong residents of Santa Rosa. The Tocchinis’ roots in Sonoma County film history go all the way back to 1924, when Dan Tocchini, Sr. opened The Strand, Santa Rosa’s first-ever movie theater, on the corner of Fifth and Davis Streets. Over the decades, Tocchini operated numerous other movie houses in Sonoma County, but perhaps the most prominent was the original and majestic Roxy Theater on B Street in downtown Santa Rosa. In 2001, Dan Tocchini, Jr. built a 14 screen theater mere blocks from the original Roxy site and named it the Roxy Stadium 14 in homage to his family’s film legacy. After inheriting his father’s business, Dan Tocchini, Jr. operated many different theaters in and around Sonoma County. In particular, from 1989-1999, Tocchini operated the Lakeside Cinemas on Summerfield Road in Santa Rosa, a former ice rink that he remodeled into a five screen movie house. The Tocchinis are proud to carry on a family tradition at Summerfield Cinemas, whereupon they resumed operation in 2010 after an extensive remodel and retrofit. They have been so excited to broaden their participation in the independent and art film community nationwide, attending the Art House Convergence, an annual meeting to share best practices of art house operators held prior to the Sundance Film Festival. As their company has grown, the Tocchinis have tried to operate each of their theaters in an individual way, catering to the specific needs of each customer base. In this way, they feel they can offer a personal touch that some of the larger theater chains cannot. At the Summerfield, their focus has been on bringing in the best films possible, and obtaining unique concessions products from local vendors. The Tocchinis’ business has always been fueled by their love for movies, and few of their locations portray this as firmly as the Summerfield.

Great selection of movies, THE place to go if you want to see indie films. The theaters are on the older side but I think it adds to the charm. Read more

I like that Summerfield shows art house movies, the Met Opera & plays. I'm hearing impaired and the headsets are great. Read more
