The Pony Express National Historic Trail extends from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. The trail, designated in 1992, commemorates the legacy of an innovative overland mail service that helped bind a young nation together by increasing the speed of communications across the nation. The Pony Express lasted from April 1860 to November 1861. The Pony Express National Historic Trail is administered by the National Park Service, National Trails Intermountain Region.
