“a small boutique winery”
New Mexico has a long history of grape growing in the United States beginning with Franciscan Friars in 1629 when vineyards were planted to produce sacramental wine for Mass. In the early 1900’s a small vineyard was planted here in the tiny village of San Fidel and three of the original vines continue to produce fruit each year. These few, precious vines have served as our inspiration to continue the grape growing traditions of the Franciscans begun well over 400 years ago. First planted in the Spring of 2000, Guadalupe Vineyards has now grown into a small boutique winery featuring three fine premium wines, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and the delightful dessert wine, Muscat. Our wines are the offspring from close relationships with the land, water, terroir, family, friends, love and commitment. 2000 vines of hardy vinifera grapes are perfectly suited to our high altitude of 6,400 feet of desert plateau and fed by the natural mountain springs of Mount Taylor. The vineyards thrive beneath a hot desert sun of day and cool summer nights which help create a nice acidity while keeping our wines crisp and clean.
It is by appointment only. We drove down the dirt road to find they were closed. The gate was pretty.
