A ticket to board and tour this historic aircraft carrier isn’t cheap, but it’s a one-of-a-kind experience that can easily be made into a full day. From the flight decks lined with an unbelievable number of planes to the guts of the ship where you can learn about the inner workings of this floating city, there is a lot to learn here. There are also tons of people here who can give first-hand accounts and answer questions with tons of detail, which further add to the experience.
“relive 50 years of battle experience”
Prepare yourself for a lifetime memory aboard the USS Midway Museum. You'll explore a floating city at sea and relive nearly 50 years of world history aboard the longest-serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century. Admission includes a self-guided audio tour to 60 exhibits throughout the historic aircraft carrier and 29 restored aircraft. Exhibits range from the crew's sleeping quarters to a massive galley, engine room, the ship's jail, officer's country, post office, machine shops, and pilots' ready rooms, as well as primary flight control and the bridge high in the island over the flight deck. Especially popular are the museum docents you'll meet throughout the ship. Each is eager to share a personal story, an anecdote, or amazing statistic, adding to your amazement throughout your adventure. (Most visitors spend 3-4 hours aboard Midway!)
Skip the main entrance hall it’s all about selling you stuff. Go straight up to the top deck and then down below to the mess hall and engineering. Amazing!!! I loved everything about this. They have veteran volunteers all around telling stories and explaining the boat and aircraft. I thought it was really cool.
Guided and self-guided tours throughout the aircraft carrier. Several volunteers were also stationed on the USS Midway so you get to hear their stories during the guided tours. Guided tour does have a height limit due to the climbing of the ladders within the carrier.
If you want to see everything, plan on spending about 2-4 hours.
