“Beloved by both locals and tourists”
When it opened in 1962, The El Tropicano was the first hotel on San Antonio’s famed Riverwalk. Hip and fashionable from the start, the “El Trop” was inspired by the popularity and casual glamour of Acapulco beach resorts. The hotel quickly gained a reputation with movie stars, rock legends and at least one U.S. president from Texas, who all loved the hotel for its unique, tropical appeal. Today, the El Tropicano is fashionably updated with a fun, retro twist that pays respect to the hotel's original style. Nestled in the heart of the Riverwalk, guests are footsteps away from exciting restaurants and clubs on the original section of the Riverwalk and the "South Bank," and the appeal of new cultural, dining and shopping experiences in the recent "Museum Reach" expansion on the river. Other top attractions, like the Alamo, Market Square, Hemisfair Park/Tower of the Americas are minutes away; all downtown attractions are easily accessible by foot, or on San Antonio’s unique river taxis, with exclusive on/off access for El Tropicano guest Beloved by locals and tourists alike, the El Tropicano is the perfect place for your weekend getaway, family vacation, San Antonio wedding, honeymoon, reunion or other special event. Our state-of-the art meeting facilities can accommodate groups from 10 to 1000. Call us or make your reservations today.
The hotel is conveniently located (I, as a single female traveling alone, was able to walk to and from the Riverwalk at night without incident), the room was spotlessly clean, the front desk staff was courteous and helpful, and you get more amenities than most hotels in this proc range (mini fridge and Keurig included!) You do have to pay to park in their lot, but there are parallel spots everywhere around the hotel if you don't mind a short walk. Overall, a great stay in a pretty nifty city!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the El Tropicano for a romantic getaway, and it was the right choice. The location of the hotel is great because it’s not in the heart of the riverwalk, you can walk there in 10 minutes but you have the advantage to sleep in a lot quieter place. There is also a trolley that stops outside of the hotel and you can move around with that. The breakfast costs 10$ and it is pretty good, I could say it was better than average. The rooms and the lobby were beautifully decorated and very clean and neat. Our room was spacious, updated and the bed and linens were very soft and comfy. It is one of the best choices to stay in in the area.
The staff was very rude. They 'manager on duty' (Braylen) accused my family (including my 7 year old son) of smoking weed. We knew it must have been a misunderstanding so we requested to speak to the supervisor. They informed us that he would not be in till the morning so we patienly waited. When we first went down to resolve the situation the entire front desk was laughing in our face. They thought it was funny and said they were not going to return our money. They falsely accused us and charged our debit card $250. We felt as if they were judging us because we are mexican. Be prepared to pay $250 if the staff feels like accusing you of something. We were hoping the supervisor would be professional and do the right thing but he stated that he agreed with the manager on duty and was not going to refund our money. He said "he would not doubt" that I smoked in the room with my child. I feel so disgusted with the entire staff. Not to mention the floors in the room are sticky, room smells dusty and like mold (thats probably what they smelled), and the pillows are horrible. DO NOT STAY HERE! We even got police involved to search our room in hopes to prove to the hotel that we were telling the truth but that did not help, We just hope no one else goes through this.
This place was horrible! If I could rate it 0 stars I would. The front desk was sarcastic, the rooms/hotel looked very old and outdated, in spite of the new paint on the walls. You will have to pay for parking, whether you valet or not! The wifi did not work, when we called about it we were told we could "upgrade" to the premium service. All we wanted was the service we had been told we were supposed to get. They hung up on us during this phone call. They made no effort to fix the problem, nor did they do anything to change our impression of this place, so our final take was that they didn't need happy customers, or any customers at all for that matter. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!
Pretty cool hotel. Stayed here with my one-year old in September of 2014. Staff was friendly. The bar is pretty cool, they have food too. The location was fantastic too. Just a few blocks from the Alamo and it's right on the Riverwalk. So close to all the restaurants, which was very convenient since me and my son were using a stroller, and there were plenty of places along the Riverwalk with stroller/handicap access.
