Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on May 08, 2021This is a new RV park with a total of ten hookup sites, though the owner mentioned they "squeezed in" a few extra RVs (dry camping) during the Sandhill Crane Festival in November. They have no website, but can be booked by e-mail or phone. As of this writing their Facebook group has the wrong GPS coordinates.
There is a toilet and sink in a small building onsite but no showers. All are very well maintained and clean. The main building onsite is a small gallery with local arts and crafts and the office for the owners. It also houses a nice bedroom with full bath that the owners rent for $85/night. There is a washer/dryer and kitchen just outside the room for rent, I believe the owners allow use of the washer/dryer for RV guests for a charge.
There are two rows of sites, the first row accommodates larger rigs. The sites are fairly close together and have no picnic tables nor fire rings but there is a large fire ring behind the second row.
To me, the owners are what make or break these small private parks and Chupadero's owners are a charming couple and bring the rating from what might have been 3 stars to 4 stars. Jose's family has a longtime connection to the area and Renate is originally from Germany. Jose starts a fire in the fire ring every evening.
The location is perfect for those wanting to explore the beautiful Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge, and currently the closest to the refuge. The entrance to the park is about six miles away, but the ponds that the sandhill cranes and white geese converge in in the early mornings and late evenings are much closer. Don't miss the highly informative tours of the refuge offered by the volunteers.
It is a hop to the tiny town of San Antonio, known for their famous green Chile cheeseburgers. I recommend The Owl Cafe. Not much else there but the more substantial town of Socorro is only about thirteen miles away.

Very friendly and helpful owners. Fairly new and treeless.
Shower inside their gallery and AirBnB building was good.
Jose took our resevation over the phone and we paid him cash when we showed up at sunset.
Google maps inaccurately led us north of San Antonio which Kose says often happens, but Chupadero is south of the town just north of the Bosque. Being mid Feb there wete no cranes in the Bosque but thete was a flock in the Fields around Chupadero!

Don't miss the Crane restaurant in San Antonio... just a few miles from the campground. We went there every day. Outstanding Mexican food.
Very close to the Refuge... don't miss that either!
No picnic tables or fire rings at sites. Train blows whistle very early in the morning which we found charming, but others might not.
We'll definitely be back to stay here again.

Good location to visit Bosque WR. The owners are very nice and there is small museum and gift shop in the office. Modern bathroom but no shower. My friend was able to take a shower as we paid the full price but didn't use the electricity. No OTA TV reception but would be clear for satellite.

First: Google has the wrong coordinates. Campendium's are closer, but still no cigar!
The correct coordinates for the entrance from NM-1 are 33.88248°, - 106.87150°.
History: Billy's Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park is closed and for sale. Billy's uncle, Jose and wife Renata built Chupadera Mountain View RV Park from scratch two years ago. It's 2/3 mile north of Billy's.
It's basic, small, neat, clean, quiet and if you can score a site (despite the lack of a website it's very popular) you'll be pleased. It sits much further back from the highway and railroad tracks and is very peaceful. Jose and Renata are wonderful hosts and will make you feel very welcome.

... this is the place to go. The owner feeds cranes on his ground, which allows amazing observations of this majestic birds. Apart from that a pretty clean and well maintained ground for RVs of all sizes with full huck up. The owners and the small art shop are lovely. Restrooms are clean, one shower available for 3$ extra only during opening times of the shop. No WiFi, but whilst internet works well, I couldn’t make any phone calls.
Apart from the fact, that freight trains might disturb you during the night, the ground is really quiet.
As stated before, the location of the ground is not as stated in Campendium. The real location is about 1 mi south towards “Bosque del Apache”, which is just a couple of minutes in the south. Therefore the right place to visit that park.

No wifi and no credit card in this simple, family hold RV camp. The hosts are super friendly, including the dog ! They gave us plenty of info about the area, the New Mexico, and about an UFO crash (?) occurred here before the more known Roswell event. Sites are level with perfect FHU.
