“Railroad museum in Sacramento, CA”

The California State Railroad Museum is North America's largest railroad-related museum, located in Sacramento, California. The Museum consists of the Railroad History Museum, the reconstructed 1876 Central Pacific Passenger Depot, the Sacramento Southern Excursion Railroad, all in Old Sacramento, and in Jamestown in the Sierra Foothills, Railtown 1897, which showcases steam locomotives and 19th century trains. Future plans call for the addition of the Rail Technology Museum in two buildings in the historic Southern Pacific railyards, just north of the Railroad History Museum.

The California State Railroad Museum is located on the north end of Old Sacramento, recently remarked as The Waterfront. Underneath the I-5 Interstate overpass are two RV Parking spots, at the time of this review were $20 each. The CSRM, Gift Shop, and the Huntington & Hopkins Hardware Store, are a short distance apart all along I Street. There is an entrance fee for the CSRM. Museum exhibits for all ages are available. There is a brief hourly interpretive movie. Then there is also then a docent lead interpretive tour, slow paced, short distance (20 yard). After these two, there are hours of displays, railroad cars, train engines, snow plows, sleeper and meal cars to experience. Some of the rail cars, displays are rotated out, providing a refreshed display! Make reservations for a three mile rail car ride at the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot, Front Street.
Old Sactamento, Waterfront, along the Sacramento River, just south, downriver from the confluence of American River, is The Delta King, a historic paddle boat you can walk onboard, dine , and with with reservations spend an overnight. For those desiring a three mile river ride, make reservations with Hornblower Cruises and Events, 1206 Front Street. There is also the Sacramento Historic Museum. Other shops, restaurants complete the historic small town feel.
Just west, across the Tower Bridge, is Railey Field for a seasonal baseball game.
