“Historic Rugby B&B”
Newbury House is Historic Rugby’s B&B and its premier lodging facility, along with our two self-catering cottages on close-by sites (Percy Cottage and Pioneer Cottage). Newbury has been welcoming guests almost continuously since 1880 when the British-American village was founded. It’s now updated with modern amenities, but still features authenic Victorian era furnishings to help you step back in time. The parlor’s sideboard is original to the house. Five rooms are upstairs and the suite is on the ground floor. Located in the heart of the village, Newbury House is just a short walk to Rugby’s restaurant, the Harrow Road Café. Newbury guests are treated to breakfast there, all included, and will find daily lunch & dinner offerings (until 6 p.m. Eastern Sunday-Thursday, 9 p.m. Eastern Friday & Saturday) complete with wines & British ales. A guided tour of Rugby’s historic museum buildings is included with Newbury bookings. Within walking distance are all the remaining original Rugby colony buildings from the 1880s, the Visitor Centre with its history film & three tour offerings, local crafts & arts shops, village & river hiking trails and the historic river swimming spot, still in use and now part of the federal Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The Rugby State Natural Area and its Massengale Homeplace are also a short stroll away.
