Description
October 23rd, 2020: RVer report confirms 15 earlier reports from May 2007 thru Aug 2019, & info provided by COE. Overnight RV Parking & camping are allowed. COE Park has numerous parking areas where RVs may park overnight. No hookups. Central water fill (but Oct 2020 didn't find it), restrooms, picnic tables, grills. There are a total of 8 parking areas just off the main park roadway; most will accommodate larger RVs, but we recommend walking any parking area before entering. Small RVs not towing should have no issues with RV size. Due to high winds in this area, we recommend parking with your RV oriented parallel to the river (i.e., E - W). Level or nearly so; unlighted, appears safe. RR tracks adjacent & also across river; expect RR noise day & night, & also I-84 traffic noise. Open all year. No reservations, first come, first served. Heavily used by fishermen in some seasons. RVer advises arriving by 3 PM for a good spot. Max. Stay 14 days in any 30-day period. 2020 rate: Free. Contact Info: (541) 296-1181
Directions
I-84, Exit 109, then N on John Day Dam Ln, which curves R. Follow it to park.
We didn't stay here, but will definitely keep it on our radar for the future! I added some photos from the highway showing a bit of an overview. Posting simply to confirm by this date that it is active and in use. Way to go, Oregon!
