“Offering sweeping views of Fish Lake”
Bowery Creek Campground is located next to Fish Lake in the Fishlake National Forest of central Utah. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing and exploring local trails. The campground contains six group sites: three can accommodate up to 30 people each, the other three up to 20 people each. A group day-use picnic site for up to 100 people is located on-site. Several single-family sites are available as well. Most sites have lake views. Flush toilets and drinking water are provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved. The lake is just a short walk below the site and across the road. Three resorts are located in the Fish Lake Basin, offering camping and fishing supplies, RV parks with hookups, cabin and boat rentals, marinas, gas, restaurants, groceries, laundry facilities and showers. The resorts are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The campground sits at an elevation of 9,000 feet on a sagebrush-covered hillside above the valley floor, offering sweeping views of Fish Lake. Aspen and cottonwood trees forest the site. Fish Lake is Utah's largest natural mountain lake, covering 2,500 acres. It is famous for its 20-40 pound Mackinaw lake trout. Anglers also enjoy fishing for rainbow trout and splake. Boating, canoeing, swimming and scuba diving are popular activities. The 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail begins in the campground. It leads through meadows and dense forests of spruce, pine and aspen as it climbs to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop. The popular Lakeshore National Recreation Trail extends around the eastern side of the lake. Hikers are rewarded with stunning lake views after climbing 900 feet in elevation.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 10, 2020Stayed one night in mid-May. Got down to 30 degrees with howling winds and sleet. Campground is absolutely beautiful, with most sites surrounded by dense aspen that had not budded out yet. Restrooms looked ancient from the outside, but had running water and flush toilets. Water spigots were located every few cam sites. Camp host was already in place. Views of the lake are great from most sites. All sites had a table and fire ring. Most of the sites had very small driveways, just enough for a car or small camper. There appeared to be a restaurant and store close by, but were not open yet. The marina was close as well, with many rental options. It seemed not to be open yet for the season. My site had a small bubbling brook next to it. If you are fishing or boating, this seems to be the place. Otherwise it is a long way from everything. You can also see and hear the highway from most sites, but there was little traffic this early in the season

We have stayed at this campground several times and will keep coming back. I apologize I don't have pictures to post but I just found out about Campendium this weekend. This and the other campgrounds along Fishlake have 50% of the sites that can be reserved on ReserveAmerica. The reminder are first come sites. The season is pretty much Memorial Day to Labor Day due to the cold temperatures force them to turn off the water in the campgrounds and to the restrooms. Many sites are fairly small but they do have some double and triple sites that would accommodate bigger rigs. There are no hookups in the Forest Service campgrounds. I'm not a fisherman but it is a very popular area for fishing. I think we have always had deer roaming through our camp at some point when we have gone. We went a couple years ago in early September and the leaves were changing and it was beautiful. There are a couple small restaurants and stores at the lake. Make sure to plan ahead to have enough gas to get in and out. While there is one store that sometimes has gas I have been told it is hit and miss. Restrooms are older but kept clean. I picked up a brochure that said there are showers in the Mackinaw campground but we did not check them out. Each spot has a fire ring and table. I believe all are paved but some are uneven.

Camp host Dick works hard cleaning and maintaining the camp site. There's water and flush toilets available. Dick also sells bundles fire wood and is friendly. There are hot showers available in the adjacent Mackinaw campground. Fish lake is beautiful and at 8,000 feet altitude, much cooler than the lowlands.

If you are not familiar with the area, I recommend downloading a map for offline use. There is spotty cell service in the surrounding area and no cell service at the campground. The campground itself was clean and the spots were decently spaced. There is shade in the form of Aspen trees at the campground. We stayed in spot #16 which was barely long enough to accommodate our 20ft trailer and truck. We had to detach the truck and park it at an angle just to fit everything in one spot. If you have a larger rig, then you should consider a different spot. On the plus side, it’s a very short walk to the marina and lakeside trail. No hookups, but water is available. There are also restrooms around the campground (we didn’t use them so I can’t speak to cleanliness). Camp host was friendly and helpful... he said he’s been there for about 2 years. Our usual preference is lakeside dispersed camping, but since that’s not allowed on Fish Lake, this campground was a decent alternative.

Good distance between camps. Easy in and out with 30’ trailer. Good shade plus space for a tent if needed. Potable water super close. Low dust as access road is paved.

We stayed here with our kids and grandkids that live in Utah. We chose this campground because they allow dogs and our kids have dogs and enjoy camping with them. The cost was $60 a night because we got a triple site. We reserved it online months earlier and found that it is a highly coveted site. We parked our camper easily and there were enough level sites for the kids tents. Coming from Minnesota, it is quite a climb to get to the lake. About 9000 ft. The lake is the real draw for most people. Some very large fish are caught in it. We just swam and paddled around in a canoe and kayak. The campground was very clean and well maintained. Nice flush toilets. We filled up with fresh water. There are no showers or dump station but there is a dump station at Dr Creek just as you are leaving and a shower at the next campground that is a pay shower. I took a 50 cent shower that was well worth the money spent. We gad a great time and would go again.

We visit Fish Lake every year and have been using this site for the last 3 years or so. It is one of the few triple sites which works well for our family. Lots of shade and close to the marina and Bowery Haven. The sites are paved and fairly level. Most sites have at least one good place to set up a tent. There is water spread throughout the campground and a few flush toilets. No hookups available in the campground. The campground and restrooms are clean. The camp hosts are helpful and friendly. Plenty of deer and other small wildlife around. No phone service which is one of my favorite things. There is a cell booster at the Bower Haven Marina and the Fish Lake Lodge. We usually camp in June, so we bring plenty of cold weather clothing. The nights are quite cold and the days are not too warm. The fishing this past year was pretty slow, but there are plenty of other things to do. The kids love playing in the trees and walking around the lake. We have also gone fishing at Johnson Reservoir and Fremont River which are only a few miles away. This past year we also took a day trip to Capitol Reef.
