“wind-sculpted sand dunes towering 500 feet above sea level”
Adventure and solitude await you in 40 miles of wind-sculpted, shifting sand dunes! Hiking, paddling, wildlife viewing, camping, picnicking, sand play and beach access - the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area has it all. While famous for its OHV riding opportunities, the Oregon Dunes also offers many areas for those who are not OHV enthusiasts.
SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Just before the park if you are heading south there is a little store called "sand masters." Stop there!!! They are very friendly, helpful, and VERY reasonably priced if you are interested in sledding or boarding down the dunes. The dunes them-self are beautiful against the blue sky, and the temps were perfect in late June. You will enjoy it with or without the boards.
Beautiful! Should take the time to go into it instead of just viewing from the top. It was a short stop for us, but still worth it!
Welcome to the largest expanse of coastal dunes in the country! Whether you just want to hike or play in the sand, or you're into kayaking or OHVing, you can do it here. Fun fact: Frank Herbert was inspired to write his famous novel "Dune" after researching this unique landscape!
Incredible to witness this landscape in Oregon!
The name says it all - amazing dunes and lots of them. Its worth asking around for where the best entry point is since they are kind of tucked away and a few of the parking areas are a real hike to get to the dunes. Incredibly beautiful though and a lot of fun to run/slide down.
