Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on July 28, 2023We stayed here 6/5/2020. Get here early on a Friday if you're wanting to stay for the weekend! I think we got the last good spot for an RV, that being said there are a lot of sites. Just follow deadman rd all the way down (just off red feather rd) and you'll see the designated spots. There are 4 wheelers and people shooting guns, which really doesn't bother us. But go during the week if you want more peace and quiet. Overall beautiful location near the lakes and hiking trails!

Great free camping! The spot we picked was a little difficult to get into but with our wrangler we had no problems. The Chevy cruise did make it in but it was a slow ride. There were 5th wheels down the road from us on a flatter entrance.

Dispersed camping off of deadman road. Beautiful views and side roads with more sites. Side roads can be steep and bumpy, but we were able to pull our 12ft camper up them. Site we were in was big and private. Had 4 bars of LTE on Verizon. Minimal bugs and about 20 degrees cooler than the nearest big city. No large animal visitors , but have heard of other sightings in the area. We arrived Thursday night and the more accessible sites were already full with larger rigs, but tents and smaller rigs had plenty of options.
If I were to do it again I would scout out other sites as there were quite a few further up the road that had amazing views of the mountains and forest.

Went up there to scout the area before camping and found deadman road was closed. GPS got confused.
USFS sites all closed due to fires last year.
Rating it 5 starts still as I’m sure when it’s back open it will be fantastic.

Road was a bit rough but our 32ft camper made it without taking out the Jack's. Peaceful places to camp. You can get water at red feather lakes (trash disposal too) which was about 10 min from camp. Secluded but filled up on the weekend. Shade varies greatly by site, with some sites having no shade at all. Had the sheriff drive through on Friday eve, probably just patrolling, didn't bother us at all. Good fire pit where we were, and lots of wood around to burn. We were easily able to have 3 campers fit in our site, which was further back.

Went a little ways up Deadman Rd until I found a beautiful spot in the aspens beside the emergency call booth. This was at the beginning of September on a Wednesday afternoon and few spots were taken. The road was a little bumpy but no issues with my 20 ft travel trailer. I also saw large RVs pulling further up the road to find a spot. Full Verizon service the whole time so I was able to do work on my laptop through hotspot. There were also trails right behind the campsite and a fire pit that was already stacked with logs. 🙌🏼 Jackpot!

We like camping off of Deadman on some of the off shoot roads because it's not as noisy and busy as Manhattan. There are a lot of sites for various types and sizes of RVs. If you have a high clearance or 4wd vehicle and camper, there are more sites available. We camp in an 18 ft. off road trailer towed by a Jeep.

We came in from the south, off of CO14 and that was an 'interesting' drive on dirt road. There are some tight turns but hardly any traffic so you can use the full road width.
PROs:
* Beautiful area at elevation of 8940 ft,, the pines and aspens are breath-taking;
* Rode around the Red Feather Lakes area and it was small with historic sites run by the National Historic Society;
* We received good enough Verizon for streaming;
* We used the pull off at the Call Box since lots of people in other sites.
CONs:
* High volume of traffic going by during the day, lots of people pulling their OHVs or RVs going up further on the road;
* No gas or market close by, apparently Fort Collins is approximately 50 miles away;
* This site could be a problem if there is rain storms so we kept an eye on weather forecast.

Beautiful scenery but crowded. Lots of traffic on the main road all day. We arrived on a Sunday and found a decent spot off the main road near trees and large boulders. By Thursday evening we had two families camping right on top of us. So far in Colorado, the dispersed camping areas turn into campgrounds on the weekends.
