“free and open to the public”
Nimbus Fish Hatchery was established in 1955 to mitigate for the habitat lost to salmon and steelhead with the construction of Nimbus and Folsom Dams. The Hatchery raises 4 million Chinook salmon and 430,000 steelhead trout annually for release in the American River.
There's lots to see and do! Explore the Visitor Center, look for wildlife and flowers on the River Discovery Trail, play on the Super Salmon, feed baby fish in the raceways, and (between November and February) watch salmon and steelhead climb the fish ladder to await their turn on the hatchery's spawning deck.
