“experienced in saving wolves and wolf-dogs”
Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary has been incorporated since 1994, received its 501(c)3 IRS status and USDA licensure in 1995 and is now recognized as one of the most experienced sanctuaries for wolves and wolf-dogs in the country. The Sanctuary houses over sixty captive-bred wolves and wolf-dogs, most of who were rescued from abusive or neglectful situations. Since the animals were raised in a captive situation, they do not possess the skills necessary to survive in the wild and cannot be released. We offer lifelong care to all of our residents. We strive to create the best environment possible for our animals. The Sanctuary is located in the high-desert mountains of western New Mexico providing plenty of trees and hills for our animals to explore in enclosures ranging from 5000 square feet to one acre. All of our wolves and wolf-dogs are offered only the best diet, vitamin supplementation, and medical care available. We understand the importance of education and strive to teach the public the truth about wolves. We travel around the state and nearby areas with our Ambassador Wolf to meet people at events and classrooms. On-site tours allow people to better understand our mission and why sanctuaries like ours are necessary. Wild Spirit is a non-profit organization who is almost entirely supported by private donations. Through animal sponsorships, memberships, and other donations, our members are the backbone to the Sanctuary's survival. Any contribution to our cause is an extraordinary gift to our animals.
On a scale from 1-5, I would rate the experience a 4.
My visit to the Wolf Sanctuary was educational & enjoyable. It's great to have a sanctuary where abused or unwanted wolves or wolf dogs can live their lives still in captivity & safe from the wild. Thanks to the volunteers who provide a safe haven for our special wildlife friends! Remember, tips to your escort on the tours are appreciated to help them out also. Chloe was our awesome guide. This experience was worth the ride. On Hwy 53, the turn is between mile marker 41 & 42.
I love this place so much, and the owners and staff are some of the kindest most compassionate people I've met. Guests are always encouraged to take the on-site tours to learn about the incredible value of animal welfare, and why supporting sanctuaries like Wild Spirit Wolf is so important. I highly recommend them!
