“comfort and refreshment”

El Morro National Monument operates a nine-site campground year-round. First come-first served. Each site has a graveled tent pad, picnic table and ground grill for fires. During the warmer months, water is available at spigots that are centrally located along the campground loop road. Once the overnight low's begin to reach freezing temperatures, water is turned off for the season. There are no hookups for RVs. The length limit on all motor homes is 27 feet overall. One site, #5, is handicapped accessible.

Nice little place, quiet while I was there, though I hear it can get crowded over the summer. Each site has a tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring. There isn't room for a big rig but a small one would fit nicely at most of the spots. The pit toilet was clean, there's trash and recycling available, though the water was turned off for the winter -- you can fill jugs at the visitor center, though.

It tends to be a little on the breezy side which is probably nice when it's warmer. The staff is friendly and will check in to see how you're doing if you're outside. There are a couple of nice hikes available from the Visitor Center, which is about a mile from the campsite. I would definitely stay there again.

I am sorry I did not take more pictures of the camping area. I found that it was clean and there were only two campers in the campsite so we each had plenty of room. The Elk bugled in the evening and early morning and it was a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Being the week before Labor Day the weather was beautiful, with rain showers on and off. Lots of beautiful clouds and tons and tons of wild flowers blooming. I will definitely stay here again and bring my wife along so she can enjoy the camp and monument. Lots of history in this park.
The other camper had a pretty large trailer and he made it into a spot alright but 27ft is about all they suggest. I am sure in the peak season the nine sites would go fast. Oh and they had one handicap spot that looked like a person with disabilities would sure appreciate, real big and close to the rest rooms.

Tent camped here for 2 nights; when I arrived on Sunday the campground was almost full but by Monday most sites were vacant. Nice place esp. since there is no charge.
This time of year (May) was windy. The campsites are large compared to other places and the tent pads are gravel which is a nice change. There was no water and NPS said they hadn't turned it on yet due to weather. It is very close to the Monument and not many cars on the highway. Just make sure you bring water. Bathrooms were O.K.

We stayed on 10-31-16, a Monday. No trick or treaters in sight. Only 1 other camper. Nice amenities as described by others but water already off for the season. Interesting hiking from visitor's cnt past yr's old grafitti & if you take upper trail extension, past Anasazi ruins & great views. Left after only 1 day as we'd traveled from NE the long way &could almost smell our AZ destination

Great little campground, well maintained and clean. Lots of tree cover, so choose your site wisely if you need sun for solar charging. I wouldn't bring a big rig here (stated max is 27 feet, I think that's pushing it), but it's a charming spot to enjoy El Morro. The National Monument is fantastic - hike up to the top and enjoy the rock scramble, the views and the history. The visitor center has a great book selection and very friendly staff. Worth a visit for sure. We shared it with one or two tent campers in early January. No cell service, although we got a great signal at the top of El Morro!

This is a perfect little (FREE) stop on your way to or from ABQ. Peaceful campground right within the National Monument which has several great trails for exploring. We loved it here!

Squeezed in here for a night (literally). Sites are very small and more suited to travel vans or small trailers. Water was turned off due to freezing temps. Outhouses on site. Views out our windows were excellent.

This is a small (nine sites) loop campground off the side road to El Morro National Monument. It is set in a pinyon-pine/juniper habitat, and the sites are partially shaded, except for the concrete-covered wheelchair accessible site. There was a nice breeze, but the tiny gnats were annoying when the breeze died down for a while. Site #8 is one of the longer sites (but I hope you're better at backing in than I am). The one downside to #8 was being directly downwind of site #9--I don't know what they were putting in their campfire to make it stink so badly! The west side of the loop (sites 5-9) is more scenic than the east side, but the whole place is pretty scenic. This is a great place to stop to explore El Morro National Monument at your leisure. And it's free! Who'd'a thunk it! It has running water (at least in June when I was there), a nice toilet, and bear-proof trashcans. No ATT cell signal. There are also wide-open views of huge, multicolored bluffs and monoliths as you pass through the nearby Zuni Pueblo.

Not much to add to what others have said. This is a nice little campground near one of the very first National Monuments. It's definitely better suited to either tent camping or small Class B or C RVs. I was in site 7 with a 20' trailer, and was just barely able to get it leveled. There's zero cell service anywhere in the area. The nearest service is about 2-3 miles down Highway 53, in either direction.

Arrived on a Tuesday and had a choice of 3 of the 9 sites. There is a size limit for RVs and our little 17' Casita just fit, although the site was not very level and we ended up using all our blocks plus a rock :) Each site has a firepit, heavy duty picnic table, and level tent pad. This little campground was spotlessly clean and the other campers were friendly and quiet. Although this spot is renown for dark skies, we happened to be there during a full moon, which turned the night as bright as day. We fell asleep to the sounds of owls and coyotes. It got colder than we expected (27 degrees at 7AM) for late September but it quickly warmed back up when the sun rose. The Visitor's Center is closed Monday and Tuesday and maybe not open at all because of Covid?? Not sure. We just enjoyed a couple hikes and the beautiful scenery. My only regret is that had to move on after only one night. NO cellular service here, or for miles around.
