“Living & breathing for 1000 years”
Lake Quinault is the “Valley of the Rain Forest Giants” and the Big Spruce Tree at the Resort is the biggest of them all. The tree is the World’s Largest Spruce with a circumference of 58 feet, 11 inches, diameter of 18 feet, 9 inches and 191 feet tall for a total of 922 AFA points. A very large tree near Seaside, Oregon claims to be the United States largest spruce tree, it has 902 AFA points. The American Forestry Association declared them close enough to be CO-champions. But a little bigger is still bigger, sorry Seaside. There is a short trail to the tree just past the resort’s general store on South Shore road.
It's no Giant Sequoia or Redwood, but don't let that stop you from visiting! I love that you can see all the gnarled roots and stuff. Good photo op, and it really puts into perspective how we should save the forests in the park!

If you are looking for big trees, make the short hike into this one. Very impressive.
It’s actually huge. There’s a parking lot right in front of “trailhead” it’s about a 5 min walk on a cute trail to the tree. The lake is also lovely next to it.
A walk to get there and not very impressive (well, nature is impressive, but...) - a few feet from an RV lot, not preserved well
