Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on February 25, 2024Near the mountains down a quiet road with just a few campers is a nice little area to camp with great Verizon connectivity. 29 miles from Quartzsite, you can still enjoy the tent show without the crowded BLM lands and slow cellular!
I love that I have a beautiful seguaro cactus outside my window with mountains not too far. Further down the road looks to be some good hiking and off-road trails.
It's a 14 day limit, free. There are some steep banks on the turn offs to the camp but I was able to get my travel trailer into 2 different areas with no issue.

There are many dispersed camping sites on King Rd off highway 95 for any size rig. The road is rough but graded. The only drawback is the distance for groceries or other services in Yuma. We drove in about a mile, but could have gone farther, before setting up on the left with stunning views of the mountains. The area is flat and level with small stones. We have an adventure bike and there are miles of fun jeep trails that could keep you out all day. Almost daily Razrs and dirt bikes head into the mountains, but it hasnt been unreasonable. Beautiful hiking is right out the door. We dont have dogs but have noticed a small purple spiky plant that looks like it could be a problem. King Rd is just north of a border patrol station. We filled our water tank in Quartzsite.

King Road is off of Hwy 95 about 30 miles south of Quartzsite, and it's far from the crazy busy-ness of the long term camping areas closer to town. Very quiet. I've stayed here twice now, for a total of 18 days. Wide open area, with VERY few others in the area. This is on BLM land just outside of Kofa National Wildlife Preserve, but you can camp tin the preserve as well. The Kofa Mountains are very scenic, and there are multiple roads that lead into the preserve. Another road to choose would be Palm Canyon, also off of Hwy 95, and about 10 miles closer to Quartzsite. Great Verizon cell service except when the big RV show was in town. Then the network was pretty crowded and it slowed down during the day. I'm sure I'll stay here again.

King Road has lots of open space for camping, and beautiful mountains right behind it. Don't be fooled by everyone's rating that Verizon is great... it sucks. So does T-Mobile. if you want Internet connectivity, stay in Yuma. I show 4 bars here, but connectivity is terrible. Can barely load a website.
Either stay right near the highway (1 mile in, you lose any functional bandwidth), or stay in Yuma. Come to King Road if you want beautiful solitude and space.

Camped at the King Road Bureau of Land Management (BLM) 14-day free dispersed camping area immediately prior to entering the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and approximately 38 miles south of Quartzsite, Arizona. Scenic mountains make for a spectacular backdrop and saguaro and teddy bear cholla abound. AT&T cellular service was 5G and clocked in at 66.1 Mbps download speed and 14.4 Mbps upload speed. Verizon cellular service clocked in at .60 Mbps download speed and 9.53 Mbps upload speed and was barely usable. The campsite I selected is big rig friendly and is located at grid coordinates: 33.2585928, -114.2310256. Once on King Road take a right turn at grid coordinates 33.2590085, -114.2306706 to access the aforementioned campsite. There is plenty of space for multiple big rigs at this location. Took some time to do some daytime backpacking within the wild and scenic Kofa. Thoroughly enjoyed our boondocking stay at the King Road BLM.

BLM disbursed camping, find a spot and set up. Areas off of King Rd are somewhat level and hard packed. Nice views. Some road noise from Hwy 95, but not bad.

Although we were only able to spend 1 night here we enjoyed looking at the mountains, cactus and abundant stars that evening.

Wide open and plenty of room. Everyone intuitively keeps a safe distance from each other. Contrary to some others complaints regarding phone signals, coverage is good. Maybe we were located less than 500 meters from 95.

After staying at hi jolly and roadrunner, this site is a lot less busy , people do fly up and down the road, trick is to stay upwind, more scenic than other areas with mountains as backdrop, nice

Camped just opposite KOFA entrance sign. Best thing: Desert Pavement perfect for supporting weight of heavy RV. No one closer than about 150 feet from each other. Serviceable cell signal. Ramble away 1/10 mile from road and your in desert solitude.
