Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on May 18, 2024When we arrived here from Trinidad Lake, my first impression of the place was not all that good. It seemed pretty bleak, for starters, and hardly anyone was around. (That is not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, but....it just appeared to be kind of ‘tired’ and semi-abandoned.) However, despite looking somewhat parched, brown, and ‘Third World’ looking - over the few days we were here I kind of got to like the place. On the ‘Downside’ there is a fair amount of litter about. I used one of those ‘pickers’ to clean up quite an assortment of trash left by the slobs formerly occupying our site: lots of ‘Q-tips’(!), bits of plastic, empty .22 caliber shells(!), bottle tops, wrappers, etc., but this is a problem I suspect all over. Also, many dog owners don’t seem to pick up after their pets, which is definitely ‘not cool.’ On the ‘plus’ side, there are bike paths that go on for miles, paved roads and sites throughout, and wide open spaces to amble around, explore, or ponder. Over-all, not a bad place, although $18 for a ‘Dry Camping’ experience is a bit much.

Beautiful views, Sandy trail around the lake. Clean bathrooms.no hookups but water at each bathroom and available dump station at park. Not much shade. Great maintainace and rangers. Camp hosts were wonderful! Very nice, extremely helpful answering all our questions and gave us many information pamphlets. Every evening they came around to our site selling firewood. Great experience.

This is a campground for tenters. For larger vehicles (we have a 28’ Airstream) it can be challenging. There is a 1-way road to the sites, and we noticed that if we would have pulled in that way, our door would have opened to the road, opposed to the table. Poor design. We pulled in the wrong way. This is a great place for water partying.

This is a very large SP with 3 different campgrounds spread out around the reservoir. Because we booked late, only boondocking Juniper Breaks loop was available. Full sun for solar charging. Getting in and out of the park and CG was easy. This CG is all back-ins with some effort to level. Clean pit toilets were available. Fill water and dump tanks at the other 2 CG as this one is dry camping. We arrived a couple days before the holiday wknd and the CG was empty, but filled up by the Fri pm. Lots of campers with plenty of generators running at all times of the day. Verizon service was solid for us - sufficient for us to hold video calls and stream content. The trail system starting at the Arkansas Point CG is expansive - easy to get away from all the crowds. Kayaking on the reservoir was nice and relaxing.

Unlike Arkansas Point, this campground has no hookups and smaller sites. Therefore you will find fewer huge trailers. However, the big trailers that can squeeze in run generators constantly, so they can camp with air conditioning and cable TV. We found the campground noisy. The views are quite good, though.
