“Quiet, secluded, & beautiful”
Overview There are 73 campsites, each site is unique and not recommended for trailers over 26 feet long. The campground road to sites 64 -87 may be hard for some vehicles to access due to large trees along roadway and tight curves. Union Creek Campground was constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corp. The campground is located 18 miles west of Crater Lake National Park and in the midst of an old growth forest. There are 3 full hook up sites located near the day use parking lot that can accomodate most trailers and off highway vehicles are allowed. Union Creek Resort is within walking distance of most sites and provides access to a convenience store, restaurant, ice cream shop and lodging. The Rogue River and Union Creek ( a 15 mile long tributary) are located within the campground and present opportunities for fishing and swimming. Please note: This is the Union Creek Campground located in southwestern Oregon in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest near Medford. This is not the Union Creek Campground located in eastern Oregon near Baker City. Recreation The entire length of the Upper Rogue River is closely followed by the Upper Rogue River Trail. The trail is hiker-only and easily traveled for short segments at a time. Hikers can also enjoy the Rogue Gorge Trail System that travels from Rogue Gorge Day Use through Union Creek Campground and down to Natural Bridge Day Use Area. Natural Features The Upper Rogue River is fed by snowmelt and springs originating on the peaks of the Cascade Range, including the slopes of Mt. Mazama—the volcanic caldera that contains Crater Lake. Along the uppermost portion of the Upper Rogue, the river is narrow and shallow, but very swift. The river has, for a two-mile stretch, carved more than 200 feet down into the Mazama pumice (which was deposited about 8,000 years ago during the explosion that created Crater Lake). Downstream, the Upper Rogue passes through the narrow, turbulent Rogue Gorge of black lava and soon plunges entirely underground (into a lava tube) for about 250 feet at Natural Bridge. Interpretive trails at both of these places provide good views of the river, with signs that explain the natural history. contact_info For facility specific information, please call (541) 560-3400. Stayed just one night here while traveling through Oregon. It’s about the closest campground we could find to crater lake that had full hookups, could handle a larger trailer, and was not a RV parking lot. The main campground is small but sites looked very private. We saw a few small trailers, but the roads are super tight. The RV sites are down a short down road just outside the main campground. RV1 looked the best and had the most privacy, RV3 would be my next preference. RV2 was hard to back into and there’s not a lot of room to maneuver. But, lots of cool stuff to see in the area. Make sure you get gas before coming in to the area. Not a lot of options. Crater lake was mostly closed even in June due to snow. Be ready for the bugs. Mosquitoes were crazy during the day. Not bad at night. Needed to completely cover up during the morning when we hitched up.

Lots of trees here and space between campsites. Union Creek flows through the middle of the campground and into the Rogue River with good fishing and great views. A sign at the entrance recommends RVs greater than 28 feet not to enter this campground. Our (27 foot box length, 30.5 foot total length) pull behind trailer and full size (8 foot bed) truck barely made it out between a large tree and a stump on the way out of the campground. Also the trees and bushes on the paved roads in the campground were not trimmed up very well and brushed the sides of our truck and trailer. If we stay here again we will reserve a spot before the bridge that crosses the creek, or get a smaller trailer.

Sites are spaced well. The road is very narrow. Would not take anything over 22 feet if pulling the trailer. A couple of places seemed to be only 9 or 10 feet between trees and the road is not straight. Sites on the river are nice. We checked it out midweek so there were only about 10 campers in the whole campground and they were on or near the river. If I remember correctly there are three sites with power to the left of the entrance to the campground. They are managed by the campground host. They have many small outhouses in this campground. This campground is only maybe one or two miles from Farewell Bend campground and Crater Lake is only 17 miles away and Prospect OR is only 15 miles away with gas grocery and cell service. We stayed at Farewells Bend Campground which has very nice restrooms with running water. Farewell is more open, closer to the highway and is busier. There are 2 other national forest campgrounds in the area that we did not check out.

Wonderful forest sites with plenty of room between sites. Nice walks both long and short along Union Creek and the Rogue River. Pit toilets and water spigots nicely spaced. Most sites can be reserved but they have a number of First Come, First Serve sites. Close to Crater Lake. I had a nice relaxing stay and could have easily stayed longer if I didn't have a prior engagement.
Price reflects my Senior Pass 50% discount.
I was in the regular area with no hookups but they do have a RV section.
