The Crooked River between the town of Prineville and Bowman Dam is a scenic section of the river canyon that provides a breathtaking array of recreational opportunities. This section of the river features nationally recognized fly fishing, camping, hiking, and scenic viewing.

The Crooked River Highway (State Hwy 27) that follows this section of the Crooked River is one of Oregon's most scenic routes.  It provides a breathtaking trip for both cyclists and motorists.

A portion of the river, from the Ochoco National Forest to Opal Springs, flows through scenic vertical basalt canyons and includes approximately 10 miles of river with little to no road access. This portion of the river provides a unique opportunity for hikers and backpackers who seek an authentic backcounty experience.
