“a 1926-built bascule bridge”
The Burnside Bridge is a 1926-built bascule bridge that spans the Willamette River. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 2012. Including approaches, the Burnside has a total length of 2,308 ft and a 251 ft center span. The bridge provides shelter for the initially unauthorized Burnside Skatepark under the east end, and Saturday Market is held at the foot of the bridge on the west end.
Probably one of the busiest bridges in Portland. It's iconic for having the "Portland, Oregon" sign at one end and the Burnside Skatepark underneath the other. Like most of the bridges, try to avoid it during the work day as getting stuck on it while it's lifted can really delay you.
