“Portland's first bascule bridge”
The Broadway Bridge, built in 1913, is a Rall-type bascule bridge spanning the Willamette River. It was Portland's first bascule bridge. It was intended and continues to hold the distinction of the longest span of its bascule design type in the world. The Broadway Bridge is prominently featured in the climax of the film Untraceable, starring Diane Lane.
If you're riding your bike from North Portland, this is the best bridge to take across the river. While it's not the most iconic bridge in Portland, it's a favorite for commuters on cars or bikes that want to avoid traffic.
