“Donuts done differently in Portland”
Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson and Tres Shannon have been friends for awhile. They always wanted to start a business together. Something that would fit into an extraordinary Portland business climate. Something fun, different, and one for the ages. After much searching under rocks, tequilas, and women's blouses, they found what they were looking for... doughnuts!! Cat Daddy with his stunningly brilliant business sense, and Tres with his seemingly endless supply of connections, set forth to conquer Old Town, Portland, and the world!!
After a meeting with some Armenians and drumming masters, they were ready to set up shop in the "crotch" of Portland --- Old Town. There was only one problem, neither Cat Daddy nor Tres had ever made doughnuts before! They set out for the sunny Los Angeles suburb of Pico Rivera, California, where they met up with some doughnut masters, and learned about doughnuts from the ground up.
These old, grizzled doughnut veterans knew what they were doing and were barely willing to give up their trade secrets at first. But the charm and good looks of our Portland heroes eventually won over the doughnut masters, and the secrets were revealed to them. Learning when to throw the flour, proper handling of a rolling pin, the intricacies of an old fashion, the "flip," and countless other tricks of the trade were now in the hands, minds, and notebooks of Cat Daddy and Tres.
So good. This was the first spot I've ever had a bacon donut and I was not disappointed. Definitely some of the most creative donuts around, and always super fresh. Sometimes it can be packed, mostly at night so be prepared for a wait. Also it's cash only so hit up the ATM before stopping in!
On the weekends get ready for a line. When we went it literally wrapped around the store. Well worth the wait, I got the Captain-My-Captain!
Voodoo doughnuts is the #1 place you need to visit when coming to Portland. Love it!!
The famous first Voodoo Donuts location is a must visit, but be weary that there will most likely be a line wrapping around the block. But trust me, the wait is SO worth it. The donuts are unique and delicious, baked fresh all day. Plus while you are waiting inside you can look at all the weird things they have on the walls and photos of celebrities that have stop by the iconic donut shop.
So good! I highly recommend stopping down the street at Stumptown for a coffee while you wait (especially if it's chilly and misty like it was the day we stopped). Worth the hour long wait. Just make sure you check the menu before you get to the counter. It gets overwhelming looking at all the choices.
Open for July 4th 2017! Long line appeared "scary" but decided to wait. They have their service down to science and are efficient, line moved quickly! Vegan coconut was a first and delicious! Filled up a pink box at our first stop while visiting Portland! This is a must stop and as many said, bring your cash (only form of currency used). Thanks for the "magic"!
Tourist spot. Expensive, bring cash. There are usually long lines. But it goes pretty quick. It may be overrated but it's still a really neat spot to check out.
Amazing!!! Was completely overwhelmed with selecting but ended up loving the Vodoo donut and the maple bacon. They were so delicious and our cashier was so patient and helpful. Definitely would recommend and return. The Bacon Donut is a MUST is you are a lover of all things bacon.
Live here and don't get it. Oddball: 4 of 5, Donut quality: 2 of 5, Timekill: 5 of 5.
So many different varieties, Staff was so friendly! Will definitely be going back.
