“Delicious chocolate treats from our tiny kitchen!”
Founded in 2005 by Portlander Sarah Hart (who, after being inspired to create high-quality Easter bunnies, was trained by original Moonstruck Chocolatier Ian Titterton), Alma Chocolate uses fresh ingredients to make chocolate you can believe in. For their handcrafted confections, Alma uses real vanilla, fresh herbs and organic butter and cream, without preservatives or artificial flavors. No two batches of our exquisite chocolates and candies are exactly alike—they are as individual and unique as the people who enjoy them. After learning the craft from Chef Ian Titterton, the original Moonstruck chocolatier, in her home, Sarah expanded Alma Chocolate’s repertoire to include bon bons and truffles, barks, toffees and caramels. All with the freshest ingredients she could get her hands on. In 2006 Alma opened a retail storefront. In 2008, Hart was named “The Rising Star” in The Next Generation Chocolatier Awards. She staged at Valrhona in France and kept growing the chocolate line and the shop’s offerings. Sarah isn’t the only one thinking up new recipes at Alma. She’s hired other talented chocolatiers and has found that many alma's make chocolate work. She now manages a small staff of talented chocolatiers, bakers and barristas who have helped grow Alma’s offerings to include small batch ice-creams, chocolate drinks, espressos and choco-centric baked goods. Offerings include Gilded Icons, Truffles and Bonbons, Dark Chocolate-topped Toffee, Barks, Caramel Sauces, Baked Goods, Chocolate Drinks, Espresso and Ice Cream. Our handcrafted and antique store displays are the setting for a different local artist's work each month. Our full selection of seasonal truffles, chocolates and bars are available here, as well as baked goods and drinks.
