They also offer primitive campsites but the sand can be quite soft. Best for tenters only. The restroom is located at the far end of the campground near the ranger office and not centrally located. The restroom has flush toilets and showers. However, I don't think this place has been updated since it was built and the showers are not very private but I did have plenty of hot water.
The location makes this spot a great place to stay and explore. The Corpus Christi museums are less than 30 minutes away as is the Padre Island National Sea Shore. The quaint town of Port Aransas is ten minutes up the road. The area is a birder and angler paradise.

We camped here in March, 2015 in a 35 foot fifth wheel. The rate shown does not include the daily per person entry fee.
We camped in site 17 at Mustang Island. The campground, located just behind the dunes, is a large, paved parking lot with back in sites on two sides. There is a grassy area between most sites. Each site has water and electric, a shelter with picnic table, and a grill. When we arrived, there was standing water in some of the sites after a big storm the night before. The water drained overnight and everything was fine the next day. The beach access is a short walk or drive from the campground. There is a large area on the beach with picnic shelters where no driving is allowed. Driving and parking is allowed on the beach on both sides of the beach picnic area.
We camped here over a weekend during spring break and the park was full of families until another big rainstorm Friday night and Saturday had a lot of them pack up and leave.
The park is a short drive from Port Aransas which has opportunities for shopping, beach activities, and birding. Padre Island National Seashore and Corpus Christi are both close by.
We enjoyed listening to the waves from our campsite and using the park as a home base for exploring the area.

Mustang Island isn't the prettiest campground, but it's location is great. Easy access to the beach and Port Aransas. You can drive on the beach. The wind blows constantly off of the gulf. Water is warm. Air was too over Labor Day weekend. I think if we go there again it won't be in summer. But, we had a great time anyway.

We were camping in the area over Thanksgiving of 2016. We made a reservation at Mustang Island SP because we were driving a long way and wanted a guaranteed location. We worried about whether we could find a spot in Malaquite and didn't know if we'd like camping directly on South Beach at Padre Island National Seashore. We ended up spending just one night at Mustang SP and the rest of our time camping on the beach at the National Seashore. But, having done that, I now have a greater appreciation of camping at Mustang SP. While we loved our time camping right on the beach we never got away from the sand. 2 dogs, 3 kids....saltwater and sand...sometimes you just want a break. Also this SP has water and electric. While we didn't miss electric too much on the beach it is VERY nice to have running water when you are on the beach and in the salt water all day. So, that said, next time I'd consider staying at Mustang SP and just doing day trips to the beach or maybe taking a tent to the beach on a rare night when it's not too windy.

This is parking lot type camping. The sites are super close together and there is no privacy. Many sites end up being like buddy sites where your outdoor living area is somewhat shared with a neighbor. We were very blessed to get the best site at the park which is site #48. That site is on the end with no neighbor on the outdoor living side so it was wonderful! I don't think we would have enjoyed our stay quite as much if we had been in one of the other sites. You can hear the ocean from the campground, but can't see it. It's a short walk to the beach. We were there for 2 weeks and it was so windy almost the entire time we were there. Padre Island National Seashore is only about 15 minutes south and Port Aransas is about 15 minutes north. It's a great location for visiting both of those areas. Verizon data worked well there, and the check-in staff was very friendly.

Mustang Island State Park is close to the beach. That sums up the reasons to stay here. It is really a large parking lot with 48 back-in water-electric spaces that are able to accommodate any size rig. We parked our fifth-wheel, unhooked, and drove our truck out on the beach for extended beachcombing and chilling.
The sites are fairly close together, but everyone was well-behaved and respectful. The restrooms and showers are at the far end of the facility with the park office, so it's a pretty good hike if you're not self-contained.
The Gulf is your constant companion here. You can hear the roar of the surf 24/7, and from our site at the far end of the campground, it was a short 1/2 mile walk to the beach.
A local told me that Mustang Island was pretty much wiped out after hurricane Ike hit in 2008, and extensive renovations and redesign were planned, but the budgets were cut and Mustang Island got very little of the promised funding.
It's a pity. This would certainly be a destination park with just a few upgrades. For now, though, it will certainly be on our list of places to stay along the Gulf Coast, if only for the beach.

This really is parking lot camping as many have said but it is perfect for spending some time at the beach and the bath house is updated and clean. WiFi was adequate from what we could tell. There are picnic tables at each site with shade shelters over them which is great. The only problem is the birds hang out on the shelter and make a poopy mess on the tables which is pretty gross.

After camping for free for 14 days up the coast, this was a joke. Yes they had water and electric at each parking space, no waste. Not even a trash receptacle at the spaces. This is nothing more than a parking lot with back in spaces. There is a dump and trash bin at the entrance. The beach is a hike then over the dunes.

Being new to this area and going from recommendation from this site and others, we thought we would give it a try and we probably won't be back. Like other reviews, it's basically a parking lot. No one during our stay, cleaned up the sites when other Rvers left and cleaning the bathroom was basically a firehouse. No scrubbing the walls, shower floors or raking the site. Yes. You have to walk about 300 yards to the beach and you don't have a view of the beach. If you just need a place to dump, refill fresh water and a shower, one nights enough.

We stayed here when normal beach access was limited. Being that this is a state park and access was controlled, we were able to get to the beach with our vehicle when others were not allowed. The park is undergoing renovations and repairs, so the gift shop was closed. The restroom and shower facilities were nice for state park standards and had hot and cold water for showering. There was also areas to shower off after visiting the beach. The RV spots do not have full hookups, but did have 30 and 50 amp service which is something you can’t take for granted at the Texas State Parks. The spots are very close together which may prevent some rigs from extending their awnings depending on how the neighboring rig is positioned. Each site has a charcoal grill and a shaded picnic table. We will be going back due to the proximity to the beach and the affordability of staying at state parks with the parks pass.
