“gorgeous views and wildlife”
With its stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Victoria BC, Salt Creek Recreation Area is the perfect setting for exploration and discovery. Salt Creek is home to some of the most exceptional tide pools in the Northwest. Come during low tide and you'll see starfish, sea cucumbers, crabs, sea anemones, and urchins among the plentiful sea life on display. Many of these tide pools are located at the Tongue Point Marine Life Sanctuary (which is underwater at high tide).
Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and interests can enjoy camping, hiking, beachcombing, diving, and many other activities. Birdwatchers can spot rhinoceros auklets or black oystercatchers, and bald eagles can be found year round. There are 92 campsites, including 39 utility sites, 2 restrooms with showers), hiking trails, playground, baseball field, dump station, reservable picnic shelter, 5 shoreline access points, a marine sanctuary, and basketball, volleyball, and horseshoe courts. Salt Creek was voted the "Best Campground for Clallam County" by the readers of the Peninsula Daily News in 2006.
The park is open year-round for camping and day use. Some campsites are closed in the winter.
Absolutely wonderful place to camp! We go many times each summer. You can't beat this gem!
They gave away my 2nd night of reserved campsite and stole my money at Salt Crek Rec area... So they received they received two paymants for the same site. I was one of a few people whose campsite was given away... After spending one night Ranger saw us in camp at 1230 pm... We used our class B RV for four hours next door at Crescent beach and they gave my site away... I did not have anything to leave behind. This has happened a number of times this year in that park and you are stealing money when I already paid for the site and even stayed there one day. Then someone gives more money for the same site. "Too bad" Ranger stated. Making it look occupied is inappropriate and an undue hardship for class B RV.
There's so much to do here: see the ocean, kayak, explore the ruins of a WWII-era fort, you can hike and bike and scuba dive and stargaze... seriously, don't miss out on this place.
