Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on April 13, 2024Stopped in here to get some sleep on our way to Colorado exit 388 head north on 154th road go about quarter mile then left on Holdredge road this will take you straight into park there are two places two camp, there just gravel parking lots first one will be on your left this one has a pit toilet that's about 50 years old so be careful but they do seem to keep it stocked up with fresh toilet paper. The other place to camp is by the boat launch both can fit large RVs. At the time we did not known we need a state permit / sticker to camp and nothing at gate stating this we just need sleep rest areas were full. We rolled in at 1:00 am and left at 8:00 am with no permit. One other thing you will here traffic noise from interstate.

This spot is free and easy to get to from I-80, which we should not downplay. However, the payoff, from a camping perspective, is two circular gravel lots that will be stocked chock full of trucks because this is one of the hottest night (and dawn) fishing spots near Nebraska’s state Capitol, named for an iconically tall president who as far as we know was not a particularly good fisherman. There are two lots, one near boat launch, and one on your left when you head down holdredge rd. The one on your left has a little outhouse, which I cannot tell you about bc I deeply did not enter.
The lake (the one that ate half of its twin’s nutrients in the womb) is gorgeous and quiet at night. I have little doubt that it would have been a sweet spot for a swim in the morning, however we tragically came to the objective conclusion that our tire was “flat” (industry term). This meant we didn’t have the opportunity to take advantage of all that the lake may have had to offer (and I truly believe it could have been a lot! Would never want to insult the Big twin lake’s potential), because we had to wait for Scott from mike’s towing to come pull us to the Lincoln firestone. This is ultimately a story of friendship :’). Scott has joined our caravan and we are all heading to visit my parents together in this summer’s most massive buddy comedy road movie produced by Adam Sandler, now showing on streaming platforms everywhere (not really but this is a multimillion idea would anyone like to produce?!)
Huge flash storm in the middle of the night, lots of thunder, lightning, car alarms. Big and true that the camper did not leak (water—tho the tire again, 10000% leaked air, we’re talking flatter than salt in Utah).
Cannot really recommend this spot, but also, if you’re not popping a tire in your hot boyfriend’s camper outside of Lincoln Nebraska with a total of zero (0) spare tires on board in the midst of a global pandemic that prevents triple a from giving you a ride in their tower’s cab so you’re forced to lyft with Andrew to the Firestone and wait for Scott to meet you there 15 min later after having to make a stop to gas up* (*get on the highway going the wrong direction for a while) then I don’t really get what you’re doing with your life! I bet this spot would be great if you are good at fishing. We didn’t catch any but that is SOLELY because we did not try.

Drove the 3 miles down the washboard road only to find a gate across the road and a sign "CLOSED TO ALL ACCESS".

Camping is free here. It's just a gravel circle you can pull off near the lake. Nothing spectacular but it is easy access from the interstate and free

My rose is the stars.
My thorn is the highway.
But we love it. It’s free and only 1 other car is here on the other parking lot. We got here in the dark so I’m not sure what I’ll be waking up to, but I’m sure it will be a pleasant surprise.
Gate was closed to the lake but sign said camping okay 3 day max at the main gate at the entrance.
Dirt roads to get here but not that bad. Big rig could get in and out easy. I’m in a class C and had no issues.

We tent camped and it was okay. It was just a giant gravel lot. You could hear the highway. There were some people who drove in at like 3am and we’re talking about beers. It was very close off the highway so it served its purpose. I would say if have an rv or rig it’s good for a stop on a road trip.

The area was perfect on my cross country trip. It was a short drive from I-80 and I was the only person staying overnight. It’s essentially a gravel parking lot near a lake but it did the job and it’s free. Waking up in the morning was nice seeing the lake and hearing the birds. It’s probably not the best for a tent but my conversion van was perfect.

This park is right off the interstate. You do have to go down a 1.5 mile dirt road (not 3 miles as previously noted). It is a large parking lot. Just pick a spot. Right on the left as you enter is the most level. The lot goes downhill from there. A couple of camper vans came in after us and parked perpendicular to us which worked. There will be a lot of local traffic as this is a popular spot for fishing and jogging. The sheriff came by once in the evening and once in the morning. The tiny bugs come out in force at night so close up your RV as soon as you turn on interior lights. As there is little to no light pollution, the star gazing is great!

Nice little spot for getting some rest after a long day of driving. Drove from Denver to this spot on the first leg of a much larger trip. Quiet little Monday night. One other couple came and tent camped. Gravel seems not to lend as friendly to tent camping but our car camping set up worked perfect. Stars and moon view was A1. Highway noises didn’t bother us much.
