Driving Directions: Step 1: Drive to Honomu, HI (about 11.5 miles North of Hilo on the Hawaii Belt Road). When you are getting close you will see signs to turn for Honomu and for Akaka Falls. Follow those signs into town. Step 2: Drive through the town and continue going straight. Do not turn right to go up the hill towards Akaka Falls. When you reach the end of the town the road will curve sharply to the right, narrow down to a 1 lane road, and wind through a ravine. Some GPS programs will show you going straight through the ravine, but the new bridge is down in the ravine when you follow the road to the right. Shortly after the ravine the road will switch to gravel. Step 3: Property is 3/4 mile past the ravine, 28-1435 Old Mamalahoa Hwy., 96783. Turn right into our driveway. It is steep at first, but it levels out at the top. When it levels off please pull off to the right to park. Please enter from the back porch (all the way up at the end of the driveway). We have a small lit placard with the address down by the road. Note: When the one lane paved road curves sharply to the left you must actually go straight on the gravel road. The public gravel road is easily passable in any vehicle (cars, vans) but you must go slow. Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Free WiFi access is available. Akaka Falls State Park is 10 minutes’ drive from the guest house. Views and access to a shared bathroom is provided in each room at Hamakua House Pepeekeo.
