“located at the INFINITY Science Center”
NASA's Lunar Lander exhibit used to be located at the Welcome Center but is now on display at the INFINITY Science Center. The exhibit features a 30-foot-tall replica of a Lunar Lander used as a trainer by the Apollo 13 astronauts. Apollo 13 astronaut and Mississippi native Fred Haise left space-boot prints and signature in concrete at the base of the exhibit.
The lunar lander is no longer visible at this spot, as of 2/17/21.
A great stop. You can be quick an just snap a picture, or there is information and other attractions nearby of you have more time. Geocachers, there are a couple you can find here!
Right in front of the Mississippi welcome center!
Didn’t realize this was a paid attraction. Looks like it could be a fun stop with kids but not worth the admission price for the time we had. We didn’t see it.
Update...
The lander is now moved to the Infinity space center which has a fee and is only open Wednesday through Sunday. It has been moved for about the past 10 years so please keep that in mind.
Unfortunately, it is no longer at the rest stop. They moved it to the NASA facility that was nearby, but you can’t see it as the facility is closed due to COVID! We stopped today 2/17/21.
Unable to locate the replica -
Nice quick stop by next door is the NASA Infinity Center which included in your ticket is a 40 minute bus tour of the NASA engine test facility just miles away. This was awesome to see!
Hard to see at first, it’s right across from the bathrooms hidden behind some trees. It was cool to see but frustrating that it took so long for us to see it lol
Pretty interesting and conveniently at a rest area. Worth a pic
