We found ourselves in downtown Palm Springs for a 4 day family wedding. We enjoyed having the escape of our own RV and the free bus/shuttle access around town. While we typically enjoy more space and nature type sites, this was perfect for our use.

Spaces are small and tight but all have picnic tables, surrounded by shrubs and full hookups.

The park is older and has lots of character. Pool, laundry room and bathrooms are immaculate. There was a serious shuffle board tournament going on daily as well as yoga in the mornings.

Management is friendly, flexible and very helpful. Helping us find out about the free shuttle (which was great to just park the car and hop on) and pointing us to great restaurants (Lolo's). While we brought the average age down significantly - everyone was friendly to us.

Initially we were taken aback because no credit card was required to book and we thought we might loose our spot (not an option for a wedding weekend). But the manager was GREAT and our spot was available and they even let us move around to a larger spot.

Happy Traveler is a wonderful park. The spots are back-in only but the park is full of friendly people who will help you get situated. The most amazing thing about this park is the very high green hedges between spots. This means that you can have basically a completely private campsite, even though the spots themselves aren't very large. There is also a great view from the park of the mountains, with great sunsets. The showers are clean and there is a nice hot tub and pool. Walking distance to restaurants, bars, and the Buzz trolley that will take you to downtown Palm Springs. Best of all, the price is decent, especially on a weekly stay. There are quite a few aggressive vagrants hanging around the neighborhood outside the park, but you'd have to deal with them anyway if in the area, so it's not the park's fault.

Laundry, showers, bathrooms, full hook-up, back-in only and sites are close together. Dogs are allowed. Although they advertise wifi, don't count on it. I'm using my hot-spot after multiple attempts with their archaic wifi. There is an illusion of privacy with the 10 foot hedges between each site. Backing-in was a little tough with a 26' Airstream since the streets are relatively narrow. Its quiet and walking distance to downtown Palm Springs. There is a majestical mountain in your backyard and that's fun to meditate on while sitting on a lounge chair at the pool. They do sell some basic RV needs (like water hoses and other things) and they sell ice at $2.00 a 5lb bag which I found convenient. There office staff is friendly enough. This place is a little over-priced at $55/night.

So the good and the bad. Take cash - they dont except credit. They tell you that though. Also, no deposit required, what a great option. The free trolley service has a stop right across the street so it was excellent that you did not have to use the car. The service was excellent - both maintenance and check-in. My "cable included" did not work but they did try to get it set up. Something with the pedestal I am sure. I wasn't there to watch tv so no big deal. Pool was great and clean, but dont expect any shade. Showers and bathrooms were clean. Disappointed with the common area as it was all locked up, so no place to beat the heat other than the trailer. Oh, if you didnt know, it is really hot in June. There is no shade in the spot. The spots are a little strange. You have a brick wall behind, and hedge rows between. So while you have privacy you feel very closed in. I couldnt open the awnings all the way and had to climb in the bushes to hook up everything. Overall it was fine. Wi-fi was horrible.

We really enjoyed Happy Traveler and it’s perfect location in Palm Springs. After our first night we immediately extended our stay. It’s a 15 minute walk downtown and an even shorter walk to some of the resorts and pools down Palm Canyon Drive East.

The huge hedges around the sites work to make the sites feel much more private than other parks with similar sites.

They ask that you walk your pup outside the park, we used the back gate each time and found the area to be safe and easy.

As far as urban camping goes, Happy Traveler is about the most compact park I've visited. Each site is a concrete slab, about 18' wide, with dense hedges on either side. Getting in requires some help such as moving the picnic table & cars parked in the road, and backing in as close to the wall as you can. But its California, and Palm Springs, and to be this close to downtown, past reviewers forgive the close quarters, as do I. Cynthia in the office was very kind with a couple of schedule changes on my part. Check-in was easy - full payment is rendered at check-in (no plastic). One block to the west is a hiking canyon, Indian Canyon 3 miles to the south, and the center of downtown a mile north. Oh, the utility hookups have seen better days. Not all the water faucets work well, my 30 amp outlet seemed to be dead (I used the 50 amp), and the sewer hookup is down in a basin about the size of a handwashing sink so it was not easy to get the fittings in there. There is a nice pool and deck area which I didn't have the chance to use but it was popular with the long-term guests. I received a Tengo WiFi code at check-in but it was nonexistent in the rear of the park (Cynthia may have mentioned it was meant to be used near the office). Overall, it was a low key, convenient stay for visiting Palm Springs.

It’s expensive to camp in SoCal so to find a place as cheap as this is good. The don’t take credit cards for anything though. Not at the office, not in the laundry, not for the vending machines. Everything is old school.

Spaces are tight to back into, I had to move the picnic table and reposition my rig which is only 29’.

They gave me a code for the WiFi which I couldn’t type in because I kept getting bumped out. Once I did, I still couldn’t connect. The cable TV box said it was loading channels but would freeze up at 95%. 2 bars of 5G AT&T.

The park backs up to a mountain & the street isn’t busy so it’s very quiet. Whether or not you want to stay here is going to depend on what you’re looking for.

Running late for a boon docking trip, I opted to spend the night in Palm Springs before heading on to the desert. It is a very compact facility with a lot of cars parked half in and and half out of the drive. I liked that the sites are bordered by tall hedges giving an impression of privacy despite the closeness of others. It was also nice to be able to bike a short distance to the main drag to satisfy a Starbucks urge prior heading out.

The best thing about this park is the location, very near downtown Palm Springs. The prices. $60/night is reasonable. The accept only cash or check, how last century, though no advance deposit is required. Lots of what appear to be permanent residents, who have set up stuff that looks unmovable. Notice photo of the 2nd story someone added to their RV to gain a view. The road within the park is very narrow and the spots are small enough that most people park in the roadway making hard to get in and out of your site. The laundry is clean, the machines are mostly newer. They keep a pad lock on the laundry room door, you have to check out a key to the padlock, $5 deposit, and lock and unlock when entering & leaving. The high shrubs around each site provide a lot of privacy so you can leave your shades open and won't see anyone else. Quiet at night. No apparent security onsite. No entry gate. There is a nice park in Indio where I stay for the same price, but it is in Indio, long drive to get to Palm Springs from there. AT&T 5G 3 bars.

My favorite thing about this park is the location. You are within blocks of downtown Palm Springs and all of the shopping, nightlife, restaurants and more. Very rare to find a park with full amenities and this type of access.

Staff is friendly and there are lots of snowbirds and even some long-term residents. The pool and hot tub are a nice feature, as is the full laundry, showers and vending. Gay friendly location.

Sites are VERY close to one another and cars will park on both sides of the street because there isn't room for a tow vehicle plus a full 40-45' RV. This makes backing-in much more difficult. The large hedges between sites do create some privacy and most people use some sort of barrier to create a private space from the front. Just be aware that it's really tight. There is not pet run, so you have to take pets outside the park to do their business. Not a big deal.
