The Chewaucan Crossing Trailhead accesses the Fremont National Recreation Trail (middle segment) along the Chewaucan River with fishing access. The Fremont National Recreation Trail, which traverses the entire Fremont National Forest from north to south, is still under construction. Currently users can travel north from Chewaucan Crossing Trailhead, 16 miles to Government Harvey Pass or south 33 miles to Cox Pass. Several road access points for shuttle vehicle parking are available on both the northern and the southern routes for users who do not wish to travel the entire distance. (See Forest visitors map available at all Fremont NF offices) Accommodations include five campsites with tables and fire grates, an accessible outhouse, parking for large groups and trailers, and a pedestrian bridge over the river. Activities include river fishing for Rainbow and Brook trout and bird watching.
