Truly a mixed bag of feelings staying at the lodge. The history, location and view from the porch were a “don’t miss”. The prime rib dinner buffet was excellent. During this COVID time, staff service the buffet from behind clear partitions and were all gloved and masked. Quality and variety of options were very good. Wish they had air conditioning or at least fans in the dining room, as the staff was visibly hot and the warmth made dining uncomfortable. Obviously they are also still working out the COVID policies and service at the tables. Drink service was truly lacking.
The hotel kept non- guests out of the hotel. They should consider this a long-term policy as it kept crowds down on the porch and made the lobby more comfortable. The rooms just meet the two star AAA rating. Very basic and could use some updates. We were disappointed to find gummy candies on our floor. While the pattern of the carpet hid them well, if a person paid any attention while they vacuumed they would have found them in the main pathways of the room. It was over priced for the quality, but they can get it due to the wonderful location. It was worth one night, but would not waste the money for multiple days.
The historic 71-room Crater Lake National Park Lodge which is built on the edge of a caldera originally opened in 1915 and is open from late May to Mid-October. Three restaurants, gift shops, cabins, RV parking, camping and gasoline can all be found within the Park. The Lodge features one of the most breathtaking views of the deep blue Crater Lake. Boat tours are available July through Mid-September (weather permitting) and the park offers many hiking trails of different levels of difficulty, as well as guided walks and informational talks given by National Park Service Rangers.
We were pleasantly surprised by its small dining room and reasonable prices. The buffalo chili and salads were delicious and service quick. Great views. Reserve!
