So much to see here! This was our film in adventure after getting to our campsite. We only had a few hours that night. They were very nice and helpful at the visitor center! Pd our $9 for our day pass and got our plan and walked out to.... rain. 😲 it was a quick rain so we continued on. We went to an old mining area where they used to mine copper and silver- foundations of buildings, and the river you can walk up on the side. Cool waterfall, rock formations etc but OMG!!! DON'T GO WITHOUT BUG REPELLANT!! They were HORRENDOUS! we made this a quick 1.5 mile walk and then went onto the waterfalls about 20 miles away as you continue on the road to the end. This was MUCH MORE enjoyable! Dry ground, a little bay on lake superior, everyone skipped rocks, tons of cool rocks and driftwood washed ashore. Very few mosquitos and nice walked paths with a suspension bridge, and wood walking path along the edge of the river.
The weather can be BRUTAL so pack accordingly. The campgrounds are pretty rustic, so if you're not used to that/prepared for that, it can be even more challenging. That being said, the trails and scenery are really outstanding.
I remember coming here when I was young and I still remember how beautiful and breathtaking it is. It’s something everyone should experience and I can’t wait to go back.
Porcupine is a great park with varied scenery. Lake of the Clouds is stunning. They are about 87 miles of trails in the park. They vary from easy to strenuous. They have some primitive cabins in the interior that you can rent.
