A remote town to get to, on the shores of Lake Superior. C/G is part of city park system with priority given to campsites. There are two camping sections, the older which is a little more sad and brushy and the new section which is also overlooking the lake and amongst stately pines.
The newer section has newer toilets and showers, nearby dump station and brush cleared sightline of the lake. All site here are waterfront, whereas only 50% are so in the older section. Either place is outstanding if you get the right site. They have elec. and water nearby. Downtown shopping is beyond a walk except for the hardy, but follows a beautiful shoreline and through pleasant neighborhoods. Each waterfront site has its own access to a sand beach that stretches for miles. Sunsets are spectacular!

This is a beautiful place to camp. We had a lake side site, and it was shaded. Path down to the water. Site was a good size but sloped to curb side. All sites appeared to slope and are either gravel or sand. Campground only accepts cash or check - no credit cards. Sites range in price from $21 (not on lake) to $30 (premium lake side). 30 and 50 amp. You cannot make reservation but can call day of arrival and they will hold a site. We were in the older part of the camp, only pit toilets, but flush toilets and pay showers just a short walk away.

My wife and camp here often.
This campground is about two hours from our home. So for us it is a quick get a way.
We like the sound of the lake and how close we are to it. The weather is always a surprise. I guess it truly depends on which way the wind blows. I love the spring and fall times little cool but nice.
so if you what a place that is clean, peaceful, on lake Superior this would be the place.

The lakefront sites were amazing! When we first arrived, there were no Lakefront sites available, but they did have sites available in their section across from the lakeside. When we checked in, we were able to put our name on a list for the lakefront sites. You must show up at 11am the next morning to claim an available site if they get to your name. Don't get discouraged if you sign up on the list and you are far down on the list. They must have cleaned up the list overnight and I went from #15 to #3. When we showed up at 11am, there were two sites available. Luckily for us, one of the people above us on the list did not show up, so we got one of the sites. You can then stay on that site up to 9 or 16 days depending on the site.
Our first site across from the lakeside had great wifi access with good speeds. Unfortunately our lakefront site did not have very good wifi access or very good cell coverage.

Right on Lake Superior beach. 9/12/20 was cool and windy. Site was level and sandy with some grass. Pit toilets were some of the cleanest we’d seen on our trip. Showers are coin fed so bring quarters if you plan to use them. We did not use the showers. You can reserve a spot just call ahead.
Verizon cell service was ok (2 bars) outside out camper inside it was unavailable.

You guys, we loved it here!!! It was such a wonderful way to start our road trip through Michigan. For starters, this place has an interesting “reservation” system, you either show up for a spot and cross your fingers or call at 8am when they open to let them know you are arriving today. They will put your name on the list and put you on the day of shuffle for spots. People who leave whose spots open up become first come first serve for people who called or people in the campground who want to move sites or get a coveted lakefront site. I called at 7:56am and they had already opened and I am assuming I got my name at the top of the list because when we arrived we had a lakefront site! We visited in mid June and think we got lucky getting our spot... we noticed upon arrival that the NON-lakefront sites were also not totally full, so I am sure we could have gotten a spot but maybe not lakefront. I don’t know how much this places fills other times of the year, so roll the dice if you want to visit!
The lakefront sites were beautiful, right on the water, with your own beach area, and very private. Electric/water hookups with dump station down the road. Really awesome playground on site for kids bc it’s also a township park. Dog friendly (even on the beach!) and really nice camp host. We didn’t check out the bathroom facilities so can’t say nor there...
Cell service was spotty with AT&T working better than Verizon. We stayed Fri-Sun and decided to go into town for work on Friday for our video calls to be sure we had no troubles... but were able to use AT&T to watch Netflix, browse social media, etc.
Enjoy this place!!! 😍 it’s only 25 mins from Porcupines Wilderness... and get a pasty at Syl’s Cafe in town.

We had a wonderful stay here. Tony was friendly and very accommodating. We appreciated the yooper tips! Loved the "first come, first serve" system. Although, we didn't get a site on the lake, we could hear the waves from our site, and it was within walking distance. The sunsets were spectacular. It's a lovely and very clean campground. We're definitely coming back.

It's very nice and it seems to be well maintained, nice size campsites with big units on some of them, W/E and a dump station, gravel pads, some sun and shade in the trees

Nice spots and stunning sunsets on Lake Superior. Camp host was very helpful. Lakeside spots were full but still good access to the beach.
