“stimulating curiosity, creativity and learning”
Since its founding in 1987, Hands On has evolved from a fledgling “museum without walls” to the premier provider of hands-on science and art education in Southwest Washington. In 1998, the Museum moved from the tiny storefront facility to its current location on the State’s Capitol Campus. After just three years in this location, Hands On hosted more visitors per square foot than any other children’s Museum in the Northwest! In the past 10 years, the Museum has outgrown its space three times and recently won $9 million in Public Facility District funds to be used to construct a permanent facility on Olympia’s downtown waterfront.
The kids go crazy here! I would not recommend it for littles under the age of 4. I went with a 14 month old and had to pay full kid price for him and there wasn't much for him to do. He did easily get ran over. For older kids it is amazing and let's their creative juice flow!
Fun for kids! It's small but it's a lot of fun for kids
There is a "creek area" in front of the museum that is actually a fountain system with chlorinated water that kids can wade in. It is free and there are public changing rooms to dry off and change clothes. A great cool off spot on a long summer trip. Also try the Farmers Market about 3 blocks away for lunch and live music April- December Thurs- Sun.
This was a lot of fun four our family. Our 3 year old loved the room with suction tubes and where you can build construction. I thought the eatery had some delicious choices.
