“great sand dunes and wide-open ocean frontage”
Oceano Park and Campground was once a favorite hunting and fishing ground of the Chumash Indians. Due to the somewhat harsh terrain, though, settlement of the area was mostly ignored until the 1900s. With the advent of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1890s came a real interest for the development of Oceano. Beach resorts and large subdivisions sprang up and then, unfortunately, fell to the woes of the Great Depression. In the wake of this difficult era, growth and development continued. The Oceano Memorial Park and Campground are a part of the many improvements made during the 1950s to help enhance the community of Oceano, as well as the County of San Luis Obispo. Oceano Campground has 22 campsites and each site can accommodate 4 - 6 people with either one R.V. or a couple of tents. A few sites can accomondate a R.V. up to 40 feet. Each site is equipped with full hook-ups (electricity, sewer, and water) and showers are available for a minimal charge. There are shower facilities available for .75 for 3 minutes.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on September 27, 2020Small county park campground with full hookups. Sites are well spaced with a picnic table and fire ring. Most are very level.
It’s easy to make reservations online at the county park website. It doesn’t allow you to pay the pet use fee.
Easy one block walk to the beach and many restaurants. Great location, would definitely be back.
Check in is at the larger Coastal Dunes campground which was a little inconvenient.
Due to proximity to the lagoon mosquitoes were intense and there were so many burrs in the grass, our dog was covered.

This campground has great proximity to the beach and dunes, but the campsites are TINY, like worse than an RV park. But there are full hook ups which was nice for a couple days. The sites were pretty dirty and full of trash. Not like forest service and state park campgrounds where the hosts come and do a good sweet of the site and fire pit… we pick up after ourselves but a lot of people don’t. I would stay here again if the neither of the state campgrounds has availability.

This is a small county park, only 20-25 sites, just one loop, all back-in sites with full hook-ups. We stayed 5 nights, averaging $58/night. (The rates are more on holiday weekends and we happened to be there over President's Day weekend. I'll attempt to attach a picture of their current fee schedule. It says Coastal Dunes, but it's all part of the same system.) The sites are a little cozy but it's a good home-base. We were in the area visiting and sightseeing so didn't spend much time at the site. The best part about this campground, other than being clean and quiet, is that it's only a couple blocks' walk to the beach.
