“Explore the Enchanting Forests of New Mexico!”

The Santa Fe National Forest is one of five national forests in New Mexico.  National Forests are America's great outdoors, here to serve the American people at work and play. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.6 million acre  Santa Fe National Forest. Elevations rise from 5,300 to 13,103 feet at the summit of Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness. The Forest Service, Valles Caldera Trust, Pueblo of Jemez, The Nature Conservancy, and NM Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute are currently working on a strategic-level forest restoration planning effort to restore ecological conditions in the Jemez Mountains.

After all soaking in the area's many hot springs, Santa Fe National Forest is great place to hike around. Established in 1915 this forest is fantastic to visit all year-round. But particularly amazing in the fall when the Aspens turn bright orange and gold in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
