“One of Americas oldest restaurants”
From farm to table since 1673... At The White Horse Tavern we strive to create a fresh, contemporary culinary experience in a historic tavern atmosphere.Like generations before us, we serve the freshest fish, clams and lobsters from Narragansett Bay along with just-picked produce from local Rhode Island’s farms. We embrace RI’s vibrant food scene to bring you the very best artisan cheeses, honeys, prime cuts of beef and local fish right off the boat – all in a Colonial tavern that’s been serving America for over 350 years.
Dropped in here for lunch and a couple of pints a few years ago, cant remember too much other than it being all around a fantastic, historic spot with good food and good beer. Newport itself was fun to wander around and admire the architecture in some of the historic residential areas.
Great food! My husband and I drove from Atlanta to New England and we had looked forward to checking this place out. We were not disappointed. The old wood floors and the huge fireplace really add character. I had Tew's bounty as a cocktail as I knew Thomas Tew, the pirate, was from Rhode Island. A wonderful drink. Highly recommend.
I was looking forward to eating at this Tavern. Open since 1673! The menu looked amazing...but alas, we weren't dressed well enough to eat there. We were passing by on a road trip. We could have found somewhere to change out of our jeans, but we left instead. They didn't have room in the bar and for some strange reason they don't serve food on their cute patio. Oh well.
