“Thousands of animals in one million gallons of water”
Newport Aquarium showcases thousands of animals from around the world in a million gallons of water, including the enormously popular “Sweet Pea” and “Scooter,” the stars of the first shark ray breeding program in the world. This state-of-the-art facility was named the No. 1 aquarium in the 2012 Readers’ Choice Travel Awards from 10Best.com; the Best Rainy Day Outing in 2006 in Cincinnati Family Magazine; and the Best Aquarium in the Midwest in the Zagat Survey’s U.S. Family Travel Guide in 2004. Newport Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (link to AZA.org) which sets the rigorous professional standards for animal welfare, veterinary care, wildlife conservation, research, education, staffing and safety. The Aquarium is open to the public 365 days a year. It is located only two minutes from downtown Cincinnati at Newport on the Levee.
When was the last time you pet a live shark? Today can be your day in Shark Central. While you're there, stop by and say hi to Mighty Mike in Gator Alley, the biggest alligator in the country outside of Florida. And stop by the new Turtle Canyon to see Bravo, the largest Galapagos tortoise in the Midwest weighing 650 pounds!
Touch a penguin! Get hypnotized by jellyfish! Face dangerous and deadly terrors of the sea! Ranked among the country's top ten aquariums, Northern Kentucky's Newport Aquarium offers something for just about everyone. Here are some of the can't-miss attractions from our recent visit.
Very nice aquarium, the best I've ever been to. Awesome from start to finish!
Really nice aquarium, if not particularly memorable. Definitely more fun if you've got kids, otherwise you might walk out somewhat underwhelmed.
Definitely my favorite aquarium I've ever been to, and I've been to ALL the aquariums.
(NB: I have not been to ALL of them. But a good number.)
The Newport Aquarium is awesome. Any place you can pet a penguin and a shark is okay by me.
I love visiting the aquarium, and Newport does not disappoint. The variety of creatures you can see, and even touch is amazing. I love sharks (like most boys, I imagine) and the opportunity to pet them is irresistible.
The design of the trail is very well thought-out and you have the right number of places to stop and rest as you walk through. This is a fabulous place to bring kids, as there are so many activities geared towards them.
Too crowded! We felt very rushed by all the crowds of people that were in there and it was a Wednesday morning.
A great regional Aquarium with three tunnel experiences, a 15 foot Alligator and the chance to meet penguins up close. Our boys had a blast.
