“Gazing out over the Zion National Park”
There are two Kolob sections in Zion National Park; Kolob Canyons located 18-miles south of Cedar City and Kolob Terrace accessed from the town of Virgin, 12-miles from the south entrance of the main section of the park. Both Kolob sections can proudly boast of their magnificent mountains of red sandstone, however the two are as different from each other as they are from Zion Canyon or Zion’s east side. Kolob Canyons is a remote 30,000 acre block of the park which is located northwest of Zion Canyon. Its set at a higher elevation than the main park, in fact, it boasts of having the parks highest peak - Horse Ranch Mountain at 8726 feet and some of Zion’s youngest strata.

I'm up visiting in Cedar City for a long weekend, but couldn't pass by a chance to visit Zion. Luckily this was just 30 minutes south. They have 3 trials to offer & beautiful 5 mile drive. Theres a large picnic area & restrooms at the top of the drive. Lookout point on the last 1 mile trail is beautiful & accessible to even the most novice hiker. Wish I had more time to do the longer hikes!
Beautiful place!! We took the scenic, less traveled road to get there. I was surprised to see how lonely and beautiful the road was. We found cows on the road and even parked the car and snapped pictures in the middle if the road, literally. From the 9, or Zion, we took Kolob Terrance Road, a little street. The viewpoint, beautiful.
Amazing view at the end of a .5 mile hike. We had a picnic lunch and then hiked (not strenuous at all) the short trail with amazing views all along the way.
Amazing! Great hikes and views, and not nearly as crowded as the rest of the park.
