Overview The Eggerts Landing Campground is located on Lake Ashtabula in eastern North Dakota. With thick forests, secluded sites and lake access, it is the most popular campground in the area. Lake Ashtabula was created by the construction of the Baldhill Dam on the Sheyenne River in 1944, and is situated in one of the most scenic river valleys in the region, offering visitors a wide range of recreation opportunities year-round. Summer activities include fishing, boating, swimming and picnicking, while Ice fishing and cross-country skiing are popular during winter months.Recreation There is no shortage of recreation opportunities and outdoor fun in and around the lake. Visitors can swim, picnic and hike within the campground. A fishing pier is a short walk away. The name "Ashtabula" is a Native American word meaning "Fish River," which suits the lake's fish population; popular species include walleye, northern pike, white bass, yellow perch and black bullhead. With seven boat ramps, three accessible fishing piers and four automated fish cleaning stations, the lake is very convenient for anglers. Nearly 3,000 acres of land around the lake is managed as wildlife habitat by the Corps of Engineers and open to the public for wildlife viewing, birding, hiking and hunting. Hunters and anglers should contact the North Dakota Game and Fish Department for seasons, restrictions and licenses; fishing licenses and bait may be purchased from concessionaires around the lake. Campers can also reach the 63-mile Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway and access nearly 35 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail within a short drive.Facilities There are 41 campsites with 37 of the sites offering electrical service. Other features of the campground include a swimming beach, flush toilets, playground and hiking trail. A dump station, fishing pier, boat ramp, restaurant and additional hiking trails are within walking distance. The nearest town is Valley City, 10 miles away.Natural Features The campground is heavily wooded offering shade and privacy for most sites. The lake area lies amidst the 'prairie potholes' region of glacially-carved lakes in North Dakota. Spring and fall bring bountiful views of migratory water birds to Lake Ashtabula, including the unique white pelican, which can be seen in large flocks during summer. The region also provides habitat for white-tailed deer, sharptail grouse, wild turkey and gray partridge.

Saw one other camper come in overnight but since we were secluded, it was hard to know if anyone else came in! The sites are great, large and lots of bushes and trees between each one. We stayed in #26 because of it's location to the lake, down a little path from the back of our campsite with a park bench overlooking the lake. It was virtually empty but we heard that it gets packed during the summer and there were a few reservations coming up this weekend and the park closes for the season the end of September.
You need to reserve the site either beforehand or once you get here via recreation.gov or phone. The price reflects the Golden Oldie Pass discount. The ranger was great as was the maintenance staff that were cleaning up for the season. Very quiet and peaceful. Don't know what it's like during the height of summer but it was awesome while we were there.
Bathrooms were beautiful, clean and well taken care of. Nice showers too!
I'd give it 5 stars but cell service (Verizon) is low at best. They do have a cell booster at the restroom that works for Verizon but not for AT&T.

We were here on a Monday night and the campground was virtually ours. We did note from the reserved tags on the sites that it appears to fill on weekends. Although it was rainy, we enjoyed a pleasant overnight stop on our way out west. Sites are separated nicely by trees and shrubbery. There was was some leveling needed, but nothing major. There is a dump station and potable water as well as a central shower building. The campground loops had pit toilets. We decided to give this campground a try after having stayed at the other COE campground on the same lake and would definitely return. $13 was the senior rate for an electric site.

Great spot. 33 is really shady (right next to camp hosts and near bathrooms and beach). Only one other camper here on a Monday. Showers are clean. Electric hookup at sites, and dump water at the entrance. Bayshore, right down the road has firewood. Coyotes howled at night, super cool spot. The weekends look like they could get super busy.

The website instructions say to take exit 292 off I 94 but our RV GPS and Google Maps showed exit 294, which is probably a new exit. Coming from the east, exit 294 was the better option, but either exit would work as they both will lead to the turn to take you down to Eggerts Landing plus other COE areas as identified on the signs. The campground (CG) area was easy to find and we got potable water at the dump station conveniently located as we entered the CG area. The RV sites here are all 30 AMP electric and we proceeded to back-in spot 20, which was easy to back into off the turn. Site 20 is plenty long and we really liked the privacy between sites due to the vegetation and trees. This CG has a lot of mature trees so satellite would not be an option for most sites. We got 2 bars on Verizon and 2 on T-Mobile. The sites in the front of the CG are more open where you could get a satellite signal. The sites at the far end of the CG are more private with little trails weaving around. There are no sites that are truly on the lake, but several have paths to the water. There are trash cans smartly placed around the CG plus water spigots and vault toilets. Towards the front of the back loop, there’s a shower house. There is also a fishing pier near the CG area entrance. There’s a camp host, but they were only working weekends when we were there in September. However, park rangers patrolled the CG. This COE is about 15 minutes north of Valley City where amenities can be found. Check out Babb's Coffee House in Jamestown. Great place to have lunch after visiting the tourist spots in Jamestown and the coffee is very good too. If you are looking for gifts made in North Dakota, check out the Dakota Store, also in Jamestown, which is a great place to shop. We enjoyed our 3-night stay during the midweek.
