“Giant mockingbird dripping mirrored steel”

"Reflection" is a granite and stainless steel public work by Richard Argent. Installed fall of 2012, Reflection is located in East Nashville’s Shelby Park. Refection explores Shelby Park’s past, present and future through playful metaphors of reflection. Referencing the former amusement park and the expansive wildlife, specifically the mockingbird, it is within the sculpture’s materials and form where these whimsical reflections come together. The mirrored quality of the mockingbird parallels its natural “mimicking” qualities, while reflecting a new vista within the park. The bird perched, trophy like, is positioned on a piece of carved granite, reflecting the negative of the opposing wall. The opposing wall is carved with a swirling motion that terminates into a hole suggesting curiosity and passage. Reflection was selected by AFTA 2012 Public Art Network's Year in Review as one of the top 50 public art projects of 2012.

Look through the swirling granite hole for an incredible view of the dripping steel mocking bird--it changes your perspective of the work, and of the park it reflects.

This is interesting. Rather like the Bean in Chicago the reflections are fun. It’s in a pretty area and nice for a quick stop and photo.

There were a few cool art pieces, but it wasn't worth the drive out of the way

It’s a statue located in a beautiful park! A great place to pull off the road, eat lunch and gaze at a cool melting bird!
I enjoyed it, hubby was not a fan.
I like this “weird” kind of attractions.
