The Hermitage by Wagon offers visitors a look into The Hermitage's past from a truly unique perspective. This 30 minute horse drawn wagon tour winds through the scenic plantation past several archaeological sites including the First Hermitage, the Field Quarters, and other sites associated with farming and slavery. As visitors enjoy the nostalgia of a carriage ride and the beauty of a once prosperous plantation an informative and entertaining wagon driver relays the story of the enslaved people who once lived and were forced to work here. Their lives were closely intertwined with the Jackson's, and it is their story that The Hermitage by Wagon tour focuses on.Please note The Hermitage by Wagon is an additional tour offered to guests who purchase a regular admission ticket to The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson.
