The casino maintains about 8 very closely spaced RV sites with free 15-30-50 amp hookup boxes on the south side of the parking lot. By "closely spaced" I mean you won't be able to deploy slides if all the sites are occupied which, on summer weekends, they almost always are. You can stay for up to four days here. M-28 which runs past the parking lot isn't really a trucking route so the road noise, particularly at night, isn't really that bad. I stay a few days here every summer on my annual trek across the UP to the Lower Peninsula.
Yes, it's a parking lot. Yes, the spots are close (but there were no issues from people deploying slides from what we observed). But the location and free electricity are awesome and we would camp here again in a heartbeat.
We got in very late on a Monday night and all the spots with electric were full, so we parked in the main lot and waited until the next morning for someone to leave. 99% of people stay only for an overnight, so getting our pick of spots the next morning was easy. Especially on summer weekends, the electricity spots tend to fill up by 6pm-ish so get here earlier than that if you want to park by electricity right away.
Casino staff told us there was no limit as to how long we could stay, so we stayed a full week as we had a lot of work we needed to get done and wanted to be close to Pictured Rocks for when we had free time. Munising also has some good dining options and a good grocery store - two thumbs up for Pictured Rocks Pizza.
Directly across the street is the Bay Furnace campground and recreation area of the Hiawatha National Forest. So even though our rig was parked at the casino, all we had to do was walk across the street to enjoy the environment of a a wooded campground with a lovely sand beach along Lake Superior. And to think, those campers were paying $18/night for dry camping ;)
Bay Furnace also has a great dump station and potable water station for $5 (drop your money into a green metal tube at the dump station site).
Good 4G, both Verizon and AT&T.
Free electric in a good location, in our opinion, can't be beat :)
Two spots have 50amp and four have working 20/30amp (the other two posts are out of order). Casino has a small, overpriced bar/restaurant, but definitely go to Foggy’s Steakhouse ¼ mile west.
Dump/Fill station across the street at Bay Furnace ($5).
This was a great place to "boondock"! We had free electricity which was awesome just no dumpsite. We just pulled in and found a spot and back in and set up. At this casino you do not have to register at the front.
We ate at their restaurant the food was ok nothing special but we wanted to "pay" somehow for our free stay.
Very very close to the pictured rocks def recommend checking this place out.
(Not a 24/7 casino so after a certain time it's very quiet)
Thank you Campendium reviewers for helping me understand this casino’s camping area - I’ve never seen free electric before! After a day of exploring the western section of Pictured Rocks I pulled into Kewadin Casino and checked out the scene.
As others have mentioned a few electric posts are out of order, but I was able to back in next to one of the working boxes and plug in for the night. There were two other campers plugged in and a few campers not plugged in.
The lot is small (as is the casino) and sandwiched inbetween the casino and a gas station. The casino closes at 1AM and though there is some noise up until midnight, generally it was quiet. The casino is technically in Christmas, Michigan and everything is - you guessed it - permanently decorated for Christmas.
Across the street is a bar/restaurant as well as access to Lake Superior. Good cell service on both Verizon and AT&T.
Stayed here three nights in our van in the carpark by the area marked for RVs. So close to Pictured Rocks where we went daily. We used the Casino toilet once, and I’m sure you can use the toilet at the gas station too. Easy and not too noisey.
This was a great free spot to stop at for a few nights with free electric. No need to check in at the casino just plug in and enjoy. A dump/ water station is available across the street at the Bay Furnace National Forest camp grounds for $5. We spent two nights here exploring this beautiful area in the UP. Remember to try a pastie while visiting.
We spent one night here when the NFS campground across the street was full. There are free electric hookups. Parking lot was quiet at night after casino closed and no suspicious activity. The casino was one of the nicer small ones I've seen.
Quiet place to state for the night.
Stayed here two nights with no issues. Flat parking lot. At least 4 other campers/RVs were with us.
Does have paid parking on the West side of the building. Electric only.
