About the sign: The founder, Jack Morrison, spelled home made pie as ho-made so the letter would fit on the small sign. It was not until later that the word "ho" got it's current meaning. The Thunderbird is built on tradition and family and thus the sign and the spelling has remained.
This place is a great stop after driving though Zion National Park. The servers are all very friendly, the decor is old western themed and the experience is great. Food is what one would expect of standard diner fare, but you go for the aesthetic and the friendly people. And it's always great to stop for homemade pie.
Great service and good food. Them Ho made pies aint no joke. Delicious
Absolutely terrible customer service and psychotic staff threatening violence. Drove 20 minutes as online said they had outside seating and we had our dogs with us. Figured we'd ask if patio was dog friendly and if not, no biggie, we'll get take out. My husband went in to ask and a lady told him there's no take out or outdoor seating. Very rude about it. He came out and told me so I said alrighty we'll get a table, order the food, you eat yours and we'll take the rest to go. He goes back, asked for a table and the same lady said rudely "Oh you're back!" And he said he'll wait for it. She walked into the back about five feet away and started talking crap about him with waitresses so he asked for a manager. Then one of them say "let's just shoot him"!!!!! How insane are these people?! I was so excited to eat here due to their large vegetarian menu but good grief. Stay far away unless you want to be treated like dirt and threatened with violence!
This place was awesome! They were super friendly and the pies were delicious!
Thunderbird has the best souvenir shop of all southern Utah. Unique finds, great prices.
Huckleberry pie and hot apple pie were a treat.
A shame, the coffee was not very nice.
The service is good.
This is not standard fare as another reviewer posted. Fried chicken is beyond good and the portions are large. Ribs were good too. Breakfast skillet was great (I had the Santa Fe). Pies were tasty and crust was good. Oh but my favorite....the BREAD!
This place has been keeping adventurers in the area well-fed for years. You won't find anything too crazy here-- think chicken fried steak, pasta, beer, and table wine... but the service and "ho-made" pies are what keep people coming back. Try the apple with hot buttered rum sauce!
It's a diner. Don't expect much more. The wait staff is very nice and do a good job, but the food is exactly what you would expect to have at a diner. Compared to the other experiences we've had in the area, I was expecting more and was disappointed. The strawberry rhubarb pie was good however.
