We overnighted at East Canyon State Park in February on our way west from Wyoming. The park's main attraction is the East Canyon Reservoir which is a popular water recreation and fishing destination (even in winter!). The location is breathtakingly beautiful.

Dixie Creek is the one campground servicing the park, located just past the park entrance. It includes both RV sites and yurts/cabins. All of the RV sites have level concrete pads and full hookups. It being February the water was off at the site but available at the park entrance. A dump station and water to flush tanks is located near the campground.

The Friday evening when we arrived was a little noisy with a large fishing party who had rented the yurts and taken one of the RV spots but all was quiet by 11 pm.

We had no cell service at this location.

There are 3 campgrounds serving East Canyon State Park. The actual park campground is very nice with some tree cover, paved and leveled sites and 4 yurts with water views. This campground fills up months ahead for summer holidays.
We stayed in Big Rocks Campground which is 4 miles away but still within view of the water and on federal land. We got a 8 dollar discount for reserving with our National Park pass. The campground is also very near a highway but there is very little traffic at night. The campground is also near a creek but I would be careful about walking around in there- we spotted worms in the slow moving water- probably due to sheep poop.
Reserve America makes big noise about a 2 vehicle limit for this campground but it's obviously only enforced in the campground within the park and not at Big Rocks.
The first night we were kept awake by a huge herd of sheep which baaed it's way into the night. The second night a large party of young people showed up in 8 different vehicles and set up 10 tents next to our site. I was determined to stick it out since we don't get refunds using Reserve America. The group was surprisingly quiet for such a large crowd but 30 people talking and laughing is enough to keep you awake even if they are considerate and turn off their radios at 9pm. If you stay in Big Rocks beware- it's not policed in any way other than someone comes around during the day to switch the reservation signs on the sites.
There is no tree cover at all in this campground and it's low elevation means it gets super hot during the day. There was no service for both AT&T and Verizon. There is also sheep poop in randoms areas as 2 sheep have made this their favorite pasture- bonus- the kiddos will love to see a lamb frolicking. There are so many beautiful spots near Park City I would pass this campground in the summer for more quiet places. If you have an RV this is probably better for you.

When we arrived, someone had setup camp in our reserved spot. They had a fire burning and BBQ going. We had to wait for them to take everything down and move to someone else's reserved spot.

The clientele at this park was a mix of partiers and families. Several camp sites blasted music all day and all evening.

The location is beautiful but our fellow campers detracted from the experience. We will not be returning.

We planned on only staying one night here heading back east but it was so nice we stayed 2. The road going to the park off the freeway is a little dicey but completely driveable with a large rv and totally worth it. I can’t even describe the views from the park, snowy mountains in the background over the crystal clear lake. The spots were large and spaced apart pretty well so you had a lot of room. At each site we’re canopies with aluminum picnic tables and fire pits. There was no water since it was early in the year so we had to pump water into our tanks which would have been nice to know before we got there when we called and spoke to woman on the phone. The park manager Chris is super nice and suggested a lot to do in the area. Probably one of the best parks we have stayed at across the country.

The Dixie Creek Campground is on the northern tip of the reservoir which is an area PACKED with boaters and day-use patrons during the day time. If you're looking to spend a weekend on the lake with family/kids, this is a great place to camp... but if hiking or just plan relaxation is more your style, go with a different campground.
Sites are all paved and level with easy access to hook-ups but don't expect ANY shade (there's only 1 tree in the whole campground). All sites have metal pavilions and fire pits with fold-over grills.
While the park is bustling with people and boats during the day, on a clear night the stargazing is wonderful.
When we stayed, it felt like the campground was more of an overflow for the parking lot than it's own separate space. In my opinion, the campground and the sites are not worth the $40/nt cost.

The reservoir was low and it looked like there was some algae bloom on the very south end where we were at. We did some paddle boarding in the south end and jumped of the big rock. Overall it was a good time and would go again. I think next time We will go earlier in the year when the water is higher. They have an on site dump station that was clean and easy to use. They also have potable water in the ranger station parking lot by the boat ramp area. It was an awkward spot to fill up water but we did it on a Thursday so it was pretty empty with no wait.

Arrived on Tuesday around 6:00pm with a decent amount of sites still available. We walked on. Fire pit and picnic table were very nice, covered as well. All spots very flat with new looking concrete. Our spot has electrical and water, no sewage. The minimum you will pay is $40, with full hookups being $45. Beach wasn’t great, didn’t go swimming but went for a walk. Water very low. Very good boating spot with a nice ramp. Jet ski rentals available. Good distance between campsites, but no trees so feels open. May have to contend with blaring music from ski boats and such. Incredible temperature in the morning and very scenic. Just a warning getting to it is a bit of a drive. Would stay again.
