Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 22, 2021I ended up at Grassy Lake Reservoir because all the sites along Grassy Lake Road were full. Even then, I had to share a campsite at the reservoir. Because of its proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, all sites in the area fill up extremely quickly-- if you arrive after 3 p.m. you will have to share a site most days.
The Reservoir is 30-45 minutes down Grassy Lake Road from the lodge at Flagg Ranch. The road is rough, but trucks and SUVs can make it no problem. Cars with less clearance may have a harder time.
The lake is easily accessible, and the swimming is lovely. You will want to swim, because the mosquitoes are intense. The views aren't too bad either.

Takes about 30 minutes from Rockefeller Parkway in Grand Tetons to get all the way to Grassy Lake. The road up to the national forest is surprisingly good for a gravel road. Our low riding sedan did well. Once you reach the national forest the road turns a little rougher but is still okay. There are campsites along grassy lake road that are maintained by the park but they seem to always be full in July, so we ended up at the lake. It turned out to be a great spot. There are dispersed spots on both sides of the lake, some fit for RVs. It was mostly quiet and felt safe. The sites fill up by night on the weekends but otherwise there seemed to be plenty. Sunset was beautiful. Only negatives are the long drive to the park and the mosquitoes. If you want an awesome underrated hike that is not on the Yellowstone map, check out terraced falls which you can access from the other side of the dam.

All of the established sites along grassy lake road were taken so we pushed on to the reservoir. So glad we did!
Secluded, stunning views, plenty of shade, no bugs. Targhee provides fire rings and flat parking. The road in can easily accommodate class C's and <25' TTs.
A bit of a drive to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, but the site is free so all it costs you is gas.
Definitely will be back!

You can have just about any campsite between there and the damn however when I was there most of them were already taken. We had to drive a very long ways to reach the lake. I was carrying a small camper. All of the spots before the dam did not seem easy to pull into with a camper or were already taken. We went over the Damn and there were sites both on the left and the right side. We chose the right and set up camp. The next day we timed it getting back to the highway and it was 45 minutes.

If you have 4WD don’t stop at the numbered sites. Keep going 7 miles in, you will find sites right on a lake that can’t be beat. Getting down to each site may require 4WD but it’s amazing. They just redid most of the road too.
