Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 14, 2020I arrived at 3:00 pm on a Thursday, and all the sites were full. One friendly group invited me to share their site. Along Grassy Lake Road there are 6 designated camping areas. One of the areas has 4 sites, the others have 1 or 2. If the sites are full, your options are:
- Sharing a site
- Continuing down Grassy lake Road (4 miles, the road gets rougher) to Grassy Lake Reservoir
- Camping at a turnout/undesignated campsite. A lot of people who arrive late end up doing this, but you run the risk of having to leave or getting fined.
The 6 areas are 10-30 minutes down the gravel road, and are accessible to just about any vehicle, except probably a Class A RV. Beyond the sites the road gets rougher, so low-clearance cars may have trouble.
Some of the sites are along the river, and some are in the woods. All are beautiful and well maintained. The mosquitoes were out in swarms.
The proximity of these sites to Yellowstone and Grand Teton is unbeatable.

Hi! I had a blast at this camp site and its FREE. Make sure to screen shot the comments before you go because you will lose service in Yellowstone and there is not really service until you get closer to Jackson Hole which is 1.5 hours away. There is a store at Flagg Staff campground(which is right by grassy lake road) it has wifi if you need to pull up directions.
We went at 5 pm and all the sites were taken and you can't overload the sites bc rangers do come out frequently. However, one site had a group of guys in an RV so we asked them if we could set up our tent and they agreed! We had a blast, drank and danced all night long. It was a magical full moon experience. It got so freaking cold i almost couldn't BEAR it(lol)..... There is bear boxes which is a plus. Just make sure you note that when you are coming from Yellowstone south entrance; Grassy lake road is to your right, RIGHT BEFORE the Flagg staff camp ground and connivence store/gas station....it goes from paved to gravel and you just keep going straight down the windy road...I counted 8 campground sites total and some allow multiple campers... When I asked the lady at the convenience store for directions she had never heard of the campsites so do your research.... If you hit snake river you have driven to far!! PS IF U DIDNT BUY BEAR SPRAY, you can rent some in jackson hole instead of buying!!
Hope this helps someone!! Happy travels <3

Passed camp 6 the road becomes pretty tough if you don’t have a 4x4 and possibly a lift, but the lake view is worth it if you can

Pros: Great location and site! Good view of river esp since some areas had past forest fires so not a lot to block view. Good area. Level sites. Remote bathroom. Good chance of seeing some wildlife. Close to areas where can hike.
Cons: rough washboard road. Fills up quickly so get there early. Colder than some areas due to proximity to river.
Overall, highly recommend if plan ahead so not rushing in late at night.
