Overview Lake Michigan Campground at St. Ignace provides great views and unlimited access to Lake Michigan. The area has excellent trails, winding hikers through ancient sand dunes, windswept foundations and a variety of vegetation.Recreation The campsites are located between 20- to 30-foot high sand dunes and are just steps away from great body-surfing waves, that crash onto the lake's sandy beaches during commonly high winds. Lake Michigan does offer fishing, but anglers tend to prefer Brevort Lake better, for its catches of walleye, pike, bass, perch and crappie. Campers at Lake Michigan have access to the popular Sand Dunes Cross-Country Ski Trail, as well as the North Country National Scenic Trail, which connects a host of natural areas, from valleys to hilltops, prairies to forests and everything in between. Both trails offer miles of terrain, keeping hikers busy for as long as they choose.Facilities The campground offers many shaded and open sites for tent and RV camping. Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Picnic tables and campfire rings with grills are provided. Accessible vault toilets are available, as well as drinking water. Hookups are not provided. Parking spurs are comprised of grass and dirt. A trash collection bin is available at the campground and a dump station can be found at Brevort Lake.Natural Features The campground stretches along a bluff between the highway and the lake. Dunes, waves, sand and wind are the primary environmental factors present. Visitors enjoy watching shorebirds, like the Spotted Sandpiper, which can often be seen running up and down the beaches throughout the day. Nearby Attractions Brevort Lake is about five miles from the campground. St. Ignace is about 18 miles from the campground and is the closest town.

We used this campground as a base for our day trip to Mackinac Island. The campground is located right along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, and certain sites (site 15 particularly) have direct access to the lake. For those visiting in early June be aware that midge bugs will destroy your vehicle and the mosquitoes are horrendous. The campground seems to appeal to those seeking a lazy day at he lakeshore or adventurous kayakers. Otherwise not much going on - but be sure to visit St. Ignace or Mackinac Island if you get the chance.

The main issue we saw was the size of the sites. At the time we had a 21 foot TT. By sheer luck, I picked a site that was just big enough to accommodate or trailer. Some of the sites are only suitable for tents or camper vans. There is also road noise since the highway runs alongside the campground. Fortunately the road noise was far less after dark when there were fewer semi's on the road. From our parking spot we went up a few stairs to an opening with a fire ring and picnic table. From here there was a path to the beach.

This campground is located along Rt 2 (18 miles from St. Ignace) and is between the highway and the lake. It’s primitive camping, but everything was nice and clean. There is some highway noise during the day. Most of the spots are shaded so use of solar is limited. Most sites have fire rings and nice picnic tables. There are several toilets throughout the campground. Each site is unique based on the terrain. Our 36’ Class C fit in our spot but larger RVs would have trouble finding a spot. We had 1 bar of Verizon 4G and was able to stream a movie with our JetPack. We still had some nuisance mosquitoes during late August.

We have a 30' Class A, there were quite a few sites we could fit on and there were quite a few available sites considering it's Michigan in July. No hookups available. A great test for our solar system as most of the sites are wooded-but the sun peaked thru enough. A lot of road noise during the day but just go to the beach where you only hear the waves. :) Also a good place to take day trips to The Soo Locks, Drummond Island or Whitefish Point.
Beware this is very hilly and you will have to go up and down sandy hills to get to the beach. Also for many of the sites you have steps to the picnic table and fire ring area of your campsite.

This campground is right on Lake Michigan. The beach was beautiful. Soft sand and very clean. It is also, unfortunately, right on route 2. The map on reservation.gov seems to indicate that all campsites are on the lake side but this is false. The majority are on the highway side. At night, we couldn’t hold a conversation over the noise. Around 4:30 in the morning, the tractor trailers start flying by and all sleep is lost. The water from the pump smelled like lake water. Cell service was better on the beach. On the positive side, the sunset was amazing.

We have a 35ft Grand Design Fifth Wheel and site 33 was the perfect size for us!! Plus the entrance for the beach was right across the street, just that alone was worth the $22!! I love having a private beach ⛱️ for our boys to play on. The camp hosts (Cindy & her husband) we're absolutely amazing and treated us with so much kindness. Would definitely recommend staying here and next time we come, we will boondock for longer!!
Just a quick note if you have a 36+ foot RV it might be a little tricky finding a place to park. But it's worth stopping by to see if any of the bigger spots are open. :)
